32) Are any of your characters based on real people?
Sometimes I will take bits and pieces of people I know or have known in the past and blend them into characters, but it isn’t really 1:1. There’s a lot of me and my current in my characters, but it’s probably not what you’d expect. Or, sometimes it’s exactly like you’d expect, like I was pregnant when I started The Lily Farm so a lot of it became about Mary Beth being pregnant. That’s just where my headspace was. As stated in a previous ask, I also use my husband in a lot of my male characters, and when I write my original stuff, I draw from a lot of the types of people I know, from my hometown in Wisconsin.
23) Do you prefer listening to music when you’re writing or do you need silence?
I like as much quiet as I can get. I have had to revise my need for quiet and solitude when writing since having a second kid, but I look forward to the day she’s big enough to go to daycare for a couple days a week, as it means I will get a few precious hours of silence here and there. As for now, I can pretty much write anywhere, anytime, with any amount of noise, as long as I’m fed lol. But I never listen to music while writing.
15) If you write OC’s, how do you decide on their names?
Usually it’s just random. Like, I just type, and their names happen. I used to go for more symbolic names, but as I’ve gotten older, I just find that’s not really my style. I like simple names, old fashioned names. Catch me using names like John, Mark, Mary, Katie, and James.
