maybe it’s obvious , his current state . whatever plight he’s dealing with , however , is not . it’s curious , the way he’s been dodging questions & abstaining from giving too much information . all information cooper barely has , anyway …
she mentions something to cooper , she says — if you need a friend . is that what they are ? friends ? everything had been taken away from him , his whole life was different . all because of something he can’t even begin to interpret . things taken — that included friends , too . so cooper’s heart gives a harder beat than the others & he’s breathless for an invisible moment .
“ thank you . ” he looks away , looks down at his lap . “ really , i appreciate that more than you can imagine … but i don’t know how to talk about this . i don’t know where to begin . ” & there was the issue of one thinking he’s mad . absolutely batshit ; off his rocker . fists clench until his knuckles whiten , & he finally looks back up at her to give a forced smile , trying to express the genuine gratitude he feels buried beneath everything .
AN ENCOURAGING SMILE SPREAD across her features. ‘ just start with whatever you feel comfortable sharing. sometimes words don’t have to make any sense, it’s sharing them out loud what helps. ’ she was very careful as she phrased her words, eager to make this as comfortable for him as she was able to. the young woman knew those moments all too well herself. moments when your mind is too crowded with pain and confusion to make any sense. they only way to regain at least the illusion of order in her head during those times was to spit out every thought which haunts her. she was lucky that most times her sister was close and more than willing to listen to her cluttered words. who knows, maybe she was able to provide something similar to the man in front of her. ‘ or we don’t have to talk about it. I don’t wanna brag, but pretty good at filling silence too. ’ she grinned.
