Order in the Court: Death on Trial!

The room was cold, and the chair was stiff, the eyes that bore holes through him accused him of things he did not do, of crimes that he did not commit. What was worse about the whole thing was that he was caught—by a bunch of cops who were determined to find someone to put the blame on. Of course, it didn’t help that his fingerprints were on the weapon… It didn’t help that the weapon was his own weapon—One that… he couldn’t really explain either. How can one explain a six-foot scythe after all?

Yeah, that was a cold realization when they caught up to him. But no, this death was not his fault. A heavy sigh left him as he leaned on the small desk he sat at, the plexiglass or whatever kept him from interacting with people on the other side was his only real company. He tried speaking to the security guard and got nothing, the air conditioner was keeping him cold.. which made him antsy. Maybe it was all on purpose to try and make him cough up or something. They said someone would be with him within the next few hours but first they were going to try and investigate…

How long would it be..? How long could it be? When he asked the security guard, he discovered.. it had only been 10 minutes.

Yeah, this was not going to work.

The security guard only lingered in the room when he wasn’t with an audience, so it didn’t take much to just take a step out of the room and set off on his journey. He had briefly been introduced to his lawyer, but not face to face.. more like passing by as he was being handcuffed and dragged into the nearest available cell with a worthless lug head of a detective. It didn’t take him long to track his soul line and follow it back to the scene of the crime.. A bit of a grizzly one but according to his background, his lawyer has been involved in a couple of other murder cases and somehow won them. Looking at him from afar, he did seem to carry a bit of intimidation to him… But up close, he was a bit of a…

“Did you really win those cases? Or was it just beginner’s luck…?”

Mori couldn’t say he knew all too much about lawyers to begin with but those cop shows always showed those fancy lawyers handling about five or six cases within a couple of months, right? Sometimes the case would last three months but it never really showed that. This guy.. from what he heard his trial took place in the span of three days…. If he was lucky enough to delay it to that extent. Law was weird…

“So what are we looking at? Who was the victim?”

Yeah… Gotta start from the ground up, that was how the detectives did it in Law and Order right?

Nervous

For what felt like the first time in forever, Hino was nervous. The last time he had actually seen anyone like this was with his wife. It had been exactly 7 years since she passed and he felt everything move by so slowly. He knew he’d never really get over her, but it was time to try and move on; at least that’s what a few of his friends had been saying. And so he did.

However, the “lucky lady” going on a date with this wreck of a man wasn’t actually a lady.

It was Yui’s best friend, Kyohei Kadota’s dad. 

Katsuro was a single dad as well (and had been for a while, it seemed), however the circumstances of why Hino didn’t ask. There wasn’t much of a point to. At least, not yet. They’d only known each other for about a year or two; Hino could inquire later. 

At least assuming that the date went well. 

Hino had gone almost his entire life thinking he was straight; after all at 21 he had married his wife, Sakura. The thinking of Japan was also rather “traditional” as well; it wasn’t normal at all for a man to be with another man. This is how Hino thought almost his entire life.

And then now, at the tender age of 47, Hino realized he wasn’t entirely straight. 

Within a few minutes, this would really be “real” to him. 

He was really going out with another man. 

He was so nervous. He could feel his palms starting to go clammy, his ears burning. 

A knock at the door.

Hino stumbled over his feet in an attempt to get to the door as quickly as possible.

“C-come in for a minute I-I’m almost ready..”

Nuts and Bolts Build a Bridge // The Dragoness

“Nope… not here...nothing...nope….nata...no? Really??”

The drawer closed with a slam, having been one of the many that Drew had gone through, grumbling all the while in her search for her bolts to which she could not find any. Had they really gone all that quickly? Well, she was growing, but at this point, this was ridiculous. She was told these years would be difficult but she didn’t imagine it would be nearly impossible like her teenage years had been.

With a sigh, she conceited defeat and grabbed her phone with her left hand, searching for the nearest garage she could go to for supplies, she might as well stock up while she was there, making a list of things she had observed she was running out of.

Slinging her bag over herself, she stepped out of her father’s garage and pulled down the door, the defense systems kicking in with a glow along its lower border once it hit the ground.

A shop was nearby, one that she didn’t quite know off the top of her head, but she hadn’t visited any junkyards so she couldn’t make any supplies. It wasn’t all that busy and after nodding to the greeting, she set to the shelves to look for what she needed, shuffling through the items with her left hand, usually the nondominant.

Her right arm was in a bit of a malfunction at the moment after it had splintered, so she had made a sling for it for the time being. At first glance, it was a normal arm in a normal sling—upon closer inspection, the arm was made of metal, glimmering in orange and silver if one didn’t focus on the broken segments around the elbow. And the sling was not of normal cloth but was a fabric that glimmered and seemed to emit from the arm it was holding, tied at the girl’s shoulder. A tough fabric that was difficult to burn, tear, or wear down.

Otherwise, a completely normal customer.

Out of the Shadows // The Beast Tamer

The day had gone by relatively normal, customer flow had come in and come out with the usual census… Perhaps there had been one problem person, but it had resolved without too much of a hitch. And so the day went on… It went on quietly, peacefully, meaningless time just ticking away as the afternoon continued.

Scritch scritch.

Calm day. Peaceful afternoon.

The handle moved, shaking until the door swung open and a hound slipped through into the lounge-like area. It stood out along the door with its gray fur as it stepped inside, sniffing along the floor and along the door frame. Multiple snouts, multiple feet stepping into the building and out—like a ghostly apparition, it appeared to be several canines in one place. It stepped out into the lounge, sniffing around, a yip in the back of its throat to alert the owner. It came out like a ghostly hiccup, several overlaying the other as it walked around the lounge.

It perked up when it caught attention and with three whooshing tails, it made its way back to the door—the ghostly apparition falling silent as it lowered its jaw. With three to four separate jaws, it reached down behind the door, its teeth clicking shut three times before it seemed to grab onto whatever it was reaching for.

Once it had hold, it began dragging the dark form into the lounge. At first, it appeared like a body, but it was hard to recognize. It looked more like a small blob than anything, the dog dragging it across the floor, the body looking like it had sucked into the floor. But the red hair and the patterned scarf was unmistakable; like a drowning victim, his body looked like it had sunken through the floor, his legs shadows underneath the surface of the floor.

His cane and suitcase fell to the side with a clatter, three blooming flowers looking to have been hanging onto his shoulder went back to their position and kept the case locked, twisting vines around the latches. It appeared the only thing keeping him from falling completely through the floor was the interdimensional hound.

Shizuo Heiwajima had never been more humiliated in his entire life, clutching hard to the metal railing of the ice skating rink he’d gotten himself roped into by one of his oldest friends. He couldn’t think of a time that he’d been ice skating in his life-- which made sense, because it was slippery and annoying and his feet refused to coordinate with him. How did people find this fun?

People were staring, which only made the blond grit his teeth. The metal groaned under the force of his grip, and soon, Shizuo’s calm temperament was sure to snap along with it.

❛ How the hell are you even standing on this crap?! ❜ he protested, tentatively releasing his hands from the railing. His stubbornness willed him to nail it, to at least be able to stand up straight, but his feet wobbled, slipping out from under him. His knees came crashing down on the ice. ❛ Get me out of here. Now. ❜
