Cosplay Review: Silk from HerosTime
This is my first review of a costume I ordered off the internet. Just as a disclaimer, this is not an advertised review.
The cosplay I ordered is Silk aka Cindy Moon. This costume comes from HerosTime.com, a site that has a wide range of cosplay outfits but their specialty definitely appears to be in printed suits. The site was recommended by a friend and appeared to be reputable so I dived in!
When ordering a costume, you’ll immediately notice there are a lot of different features. You start out with a basic form of the suit and can add on additional features, some of which have costs. For instance, you can additional zippers, include shoes, or add detachable components. For my costume, I ordered a medium and opted for shoes. I didn’t feel like gluing on my own bottoms or walking on the ground without covers for the fabric. Total price with shipping and coupon ended up being $114.00. The costume was ordered October 23rd and I believe I got it October 30th. Not a bad turn around time.
When the costume came in I was at school. I was super excited and asked my boyfriend to take pictures for me. He lined it up next to BTAS Catwoman cosplay and I noticed they both looked similar in size. My Catwoman is a pretty tight but comfortable fit so I figured this would be the same. I’m 5′5″ and 120lbs, just to give you an idea.
Once I get home, I checked out the costume. It was shipped by DHL and had a pretty intense warehouse smell to it. The print on the costume is gorgeous though and everything appears to be well sewed. I immediately tried it on but the biggest hurdle were the shoes. I’m not entirely sure what the shoes look like but they seem like knock off Vans slip-ons. That being said, they are not easy to put on. The shoes are the worst part about the costume. I’m not really sure what I expected but I didn’t expect this. They’re annoying to put on and you can see the staples pretty clearly around the shoe. I’ll definitely need to go over it with a gray marker or paint.
My next beef with the costume is the mask. While the mask looked good in the pictures, I really didn’t like the way it looked on myself. It wasn’t all that flattering and I ended up making my own bandanna for it. As far as I could tell, there wasn’t an option to make it detachable but I’m sure you could ask for it in the comments.
Despite those two things, the costume’s amazing. The print has a really bright and intense color to it. It’s incredibly form fitting but also very breathable. I felt comfortable walking around in it all night. For the most part I could zip it up and down on my own during bathroom breaks too. As stated before, the costume is TIGHT fitting and I wore a waist shaper because of it. The color and shading of the costume really helps to accentuate features, such as the shading around the chest.
Overall, pretty happy with the way the costume turned out. I will most likely order from this store again in the future.
