Children Of The Corn III doing it before Watchmen made it cool.
An eldritch corn god taking the time to turn an entire high school goth in one semester. I’m dead.
A wild Charlize Theron appears?!?!?
Lmaooooo no way IMDB did her like that ahahaha
Children Of The Corn III: Urban Harvest, aka the Corn Kid Clique goes to the hood. Honestly this felt like one of those programs showing Amish people adjusting to the “modern world” mixed with Lovecraftian horror lmao. I will admit that the change in setting from the cornfields of Nebraska to the city allowed the filmmakers to have some fun with King’s story, although this naturally veered wildly from the creative to the absurd. One idea that was pretty neat here was the concept that kernels from corn cobs with their origins in HWWBTR’s home turf could be spread to other places, thereby taking a part of the god’s essence wherever the seeds could be planted. Eli Porter takes up the mantle nicely where Isaac and Micah left off in the previous two movies, serving as a convincing preacher and counterpart for his deity. Still, there were plenty of amusing parts to this installment, among them the hilariously obvious scene when an actress was switched out in the middle of a live action sequence for a miniature that was very clearly a miniature. Additionally, HWWBTR’s standards are such that his cult of high school students must wear all black clothes, turning the entire class into a Hot Topic shopping aisle. As for gore, there were some decent and even striking practical effects here and there, although I did feel that a few of the deaths they accompanied were unnecessary. All in all, a wacky ride that was worth a watch. Plus 0.5 points for Charlize Theron showing up out of nowhere in her first role as an extra with “no dialogue except for some screaming” (as stated on IMDB’s trivia page). 6.0/10
