Creative Ways To Dress Up A Plain Glass Vase

Creative Ways To Dress Up A Plain Glass Vase
Hi Everyone,
Today I thought I’d share a few creative ways for dressing up a plain glass vase. You may even have a few of them tucked away in your closets collecting dust. There are plenty of crafty ways you make them pretty and more interesting.
Paint Them:
One of the easiest ways to dress up one of these Plain Jane vases is with glass paint found at your local craft store.
This Rose Inspired Vase is not only pretty, it’s functional too. Once you are finished painting your design, let it dry and then bake it in the oven to set the paint. The vase is totally washable! If you are not so keen on painting roses, let your imagination run wild. Simple polka dots, squiggles and swirls are easy and fun do! You could even host a painting party and have your friends over.

I always use Folk Art Enamel Paint when I paint on glass. It is very easy to work with and if you make a mistake you can just wipe it off and start over. Have the kiddies paint a glass vase for Mom or Grandma for Mother’s Day or a Birthday. They make a great gift!
Decoupage them:
Another way to give a plain glass vase a new look is with a decoupage technique.
I love this Upcycled Book Page Vase. I created it by gluing torn pages from a vintage book in layers all over the outside of the vase. The rose image is from a decorative paper napkin. This vase is so pretty and would look wonderful with a silk floral arrangement nestled inside it.
TIP: When decoupaging (or gluing), I like to use Mod Podge found at your local craft shop. You can also use regular white glue thinned with water.
This Floral Vase was decoupaged in torn scrapbooking paper and embelished with a satin bow.
TIP:
When using thicker paper like scrapbooking paper, you may want to soak each piece of paper in water for a few seconds. It will become more pliable, making it easier to conform to the curves of the vase.
Embelish:
If you love the beach you may like this last project idea….
This “vase” is actually a ginger jar that was missing the lid. With a layer of Mod Podge underneath to secure it, I wrapped jute string (found at my local hardware store) around the neck of the jar. After that I hot glued a starfish to the neck and tied it with a bow. I finished it off by filling it with seashells! This project was quick, easy and cheap!
I hope this post will get you looking at those plain glass vases in a new light, inspiring you to get creative! Create a bunch of them for an upcoming wedding or special event!

Tickled With Toilet Brush Holders, Must See Makeovers!

Tickled With Toilet Brush Holders, Must See Makeovers!
Generic Toilet Brush Holder Makeovers That Will Just Tickle Your Creative Side
Hi All,
Today I would like to share a couple of fun crafty makeovers that I recently completed for my bathrooms. If you have been following my blog for a while you may remember the post about my Generic Trash Can Makeover for my master bathroom.
It is no secret that I am a fan of cottage style and generic chrome just does not fit into my design scheme. For years I have found myself carting a toilet brush from one bathroom to another on cleaning day along with my other cleaning products. I decided it was time to put a toilet brush in every bathroom that was easy to grab when needed. I went to my local home store and purchased three chrome toilet brush holders.
I could have just placed them in my bathrooms “as is” and went about my business but of course I just couldn’t stop there. Plain chrome just does not fit into a vintage, shabby chic inspired room. I decided to do a few “Toilet Brush Holder Makeovers!” Ok, so, have I lost my mind? My husband came in and asked what I was doing while I was working on them and he just smiled and shook his head.
I began my makeovers by painting the first one a sweet periwinkle blue, gave it a light distressing and added a pretty vintage Lilac image to the front. Lilacs are my absolute favorite spring time flower. It now sits in my garden inspired guest bathroom looking pretty.
Toilet Brush Holder #2 received a few coats of petal pink spray paint, distressing and a vintage rose and bird image applied to the front. This pretty little thing now lives in my Master Bathroom right next to my revamped trash can.
Toilet Brush Holder Makeover #3 was a little bit different. The base actually came white already so I didn’t have to paint it. Instead I applied a customized vintage seahorse image using waterslide decal paper. Oh I love that stuff! This baby can be found tucked away in my beach inspired bathroom. I have been tweaking this particular bathroom lately and will share some new photos soon.
Here’s a photo of all three completed Toilet Brush Holder Makeovers. What do you think? Have I lost my mind?
While some may think I have gone over the edge by revamping a couple of toilet brush holders but I had a lot of fun with these makeovers. A generic, boring toilet brush holder can be a pretty accent for your bathroom with a few coats of paint and a pretty image.
They can be easily customized to fit your own design scheme!
Thanks so much for visiting today.
Happy Decorating!

Easy DIY Crafts: Creative Ways To Make A Cake Pedestal

Easy DIY Crafts: Creative Ways To Make A Cake Pedestal
Dress Up Your Next Buffet Or Tablescape Using These Creative Ways To Make A Cake Pedestal
Hello Friends, If you are the type of person who loves to wow their guests every time they throw a party or host a special event then this quick and easy craft project may be right up your alley. Everyone loves to eat, and expects to eat at a party right? I mean, what kind of party has no food? A beautiful presentation, no matter what the cuisine is, can really add to the ambiance of the evening just as much as setting a table with beautiful dinnerware can be. One way to add interest to a buffet or tablescape is to add varying heights to your arrangement. You can accomplish this by incorporating a few cake pedestals to it. Of course you can use a few store bought cake stands or you can get your creative juices flowing and really make your presentation unique. There are a few creative ways to make a cake pedestal that are not only easy but fun too! If you caught last week’s post A Cozy Valentine’s Day Picnic By The Fire you may have noticed this cute pedestal I created.
To make a cake pedestal like this one all you need is a cute flower pot, a decorative plate and one key ingredient….. Amazing Goop!
I have used Amazing Goop on a lot of projects and boy it really is Amazing! I built this unique birdbath for my garden by gluing an old enamel bowl to an old post and a plate to the bottom using this adhesive and it stayed in tact for years. The bowl finally rusted through so I had to retire it.
Okay, now back to our project. To make this adorable cake pedestal turn your flower pot upside down and dab a line of your Amazing Goop along the edges of the bottom of the pot. Place your plate on top of that and once it is dry you’ll have a one of a kind, decorative accent for your table. Make it more personal by painting your flower pot first! You can use a full size dinner plate for this project or you can use a smaller sandwich plate like I did. Make a bunch of them in different sizes to make things more interesting. You can also stack one on top of another to give you more serving space and even more height. You can easily make a cake pedestal using the same method but using some different elements as well. I made this one for my own home using a ceramic plate and a vintage milk glass compote turned upside down.
Using plastic charger and old basket spray painted a whimsical color can also make a cute pedestal for your display.
Create your own cake pedestals using glass bowls, short glasses and even candle holders as a base. They are perfect for appetizers, cakes, cupcakes, small gifts, and chocolates. Just about anything on these little pedestals and they will make your tablescape or buffet interesting and pretty! For safety’s sake please do not place any food directly on any surface you have painted. Put down a paper doily first. You can even use your handmade pedestal as a centerpiece by placing a bunch of candles on it. The possibilities are endless!
The next time you are hosting a party and want to dress things up a bit, head to your local thrift shop, craft shop or discount store and make a cake pedestal or two, or three….! Thank you so much for visiting today!
