The next post in my #thewomxnwhoinspireme series is Erin Dollar. Here is why she inspires me:
Erin is an artist and textile designer, with a background as a professionally educated printmaker. This informs her work for Cotton & Flax, an entire line of textile home goods that are designed, silkscreen printed, and hand sewn in California. Some of her recent clients include: CB2, Schoolhouse Electric, Scout Books, and a full line of printed textiles for Arroyo by Robert Kaufman. I admire Erin’s self-discipline, her creative approach, and dedication to using eco-friendly materials and practices.
She also opens up a dialogue about what it means to be a practicing artist, and the challenges that come along with running your own business. She teaches workshops on printing and mark-making, and is open about her process with others. I find this so inspiring because we are living in a time when it seems like everyone has their own secrets to success, and instagram-worthy lifestyles, and Erin speaks freely, is unguarded, and confident in herself and her abilities.
I love that Erin is a naturally cheerful person, even in less-than-desirable situations. She is always making jokes, and fostering laughter all around her. I have not known Erin for long, but I was struck with an instant connection with her, and I’ve found it so rare to feel that affection as an adult. Erin is one of those women that I just relate to, and have such a relaxed, easy time being around. It’s as if I’ve known her for years.
Along with this post, I will be donating money to the United Nations Foundation. UNF is dedicated to reducing childhood mortality from disease, advocating for the rights of women and girls, improving disaster relief, creating a clean energy future, and ensuring a strong, well-funded UN. Please consider joining me, and stay tuned for my next installment!
