♣ – a creature of habit was a curse that was bestowed upon him forever jading his ability to adjust to the ever changing and morphing ways of the world. molding his routine to fit the new roads carved by unforeseen circumstances or new happenings was not a talent he boasted in his box of many tricks. perhaps her fault or simply the closest available recipient qualified to feel the true displeasure at the disruption but the ear he chewed upon with words of protest was hers. it was a lament he was sure she’d hear many times in the upcoming future but it would not be just if his two cents were not added to the pot.
their relationship was comfortable as such was between a frequent customer in the late evenings. the only time for himself within a job that stole his nights and early mornings, he utilized his break time the same during each shift. a hop, skip and jump away from the crowded, sweaty walls of the club and his post as bouncer guided him past the soft chiming bells of the glass entrance and into the convenience store owned by a face drawn familiar after years of interaction. exact change was produced from his wallet, the silent knowing communication of his desired pack of This Plus cigarettes and a starbucks mocha frappuccino in the air as his words carried when he’d realized he’d jumped the gun. not a single pack was within the store.

he understood a business was to be run and she often let him slide on merit if his wallet was forgotten but he grimaced as the overwhelming feeling that his loyalty should outweigh another strangers money.
