"Oh, my moon... my dear..."
Columbina gently caressed your cheek as your now-cold body fell limp into her hands.
Soon enough, you would enter the afterlife, where the two of you would reunite on opposite ends of the world once more.
To consider either of you innocent would be a mistake.Your relationship had never been perfect.
Even when you were alive, the two of you fought more often than either would admit.
Arguments stretched for hours, cruel words lingered long after they were spoken, and neither of you knew when to let go.
Yet despite everything, Columbina had loved you.
-Or at least, she believed she did..
Watching you after her death had been enough proof.
The sleepless nights, the tears, the way your life seemed to stop the moment hers ended.
At first, she pitied you. Then she began to enjoy it.
The grief that consumed you thrilled her in a way she could not understand. Every tear, every desperate plea for her return, every day you spent unable to move on only drew her closer.
And with every passing moment, she became less like the woman she once was.
You were right.
She wasn't Columbina....
Not entirely.
She was only a fragment, the love she had once felt for you given form after death...
...But that love was not gentle.
It was desperate. Possessive. Toxic.
Leaning down, her long hair brushed against your face as she carefully closed your dull eyes.
For a moment, she simply admired you. You looked peaceful now. No more crying. No more loneliness. No more fear of losing her.
A soft laugh escaped her lips as her fingers combed through your hair.
"Don't worry. Our relationship isn't over."
She pressed a kiss against your forehead.
"You spent every day mourning me."
Her smile softened, warm and sincere.
"Now you'll never have to be lonely again."
Wrapping her arms around your lifeless body, Columbina held you close as she softly spoke.
"Not even death can separate us."
