The Further You Dangle
The Greater The Danger
Two Worlds Collided- Part 1
This was supposed to be a short drabble but I’m a sucker for build up so this part 1 and there will be a part 2
Also let’s just say this takes place after the series but Dracula survives and he can be out in the sun.
Dracula x Reader
Blood was pumping through your veins and your heart was beating so hard you could feel it in your bones and it hurt. You were pretty sure it was going to burst through your rib cage. This had to be the worst idea you ever had and now you were pretty sure that you had secured your own death. You came to a stop and your hands went to your knees as you bent forward slightly trying to catch your breath at least for a second, trying to smother the fire in your lungs.
Why did you decide to make running part of your New Years resolution? You regretted it every time you got to the the park. Especially when all the other runners were taking everything in stride and not like they were on the brink of death.
“Hello.” A voice said from beside you suddenly. You had no idea when someone creeped up beside you, and it sent your heart beating fast again with surprise. You quickly stood back up into standing position and took a step back.
“Sorry I didn’t mean to startle you.” He said, a small smile on his face that made you think otherwise. “ I was just making sure you were ok.” You took in the stranger with a glance. Tall, dark, and definitely not dressed appropriately for a day in the park.
“Um yeah I’m fine, just getting into this whole running thing and my body is wondering what the hell I’m doing.” You let out a small chuckle that was more of a nervous reaction as the man gazed at you so intently. His dark eyes made you want to start running again because it was almost too much but at the same time something seemed to keep you in place.
“ I never really got into it either. But I heard it can be quite a feeling once you get used to it. It really gets your blood pumping. A high that some people can’t get enough of.” As he spoke, his eyes seemed to trail down to your neck or you cleavage. You weren’t sure if either was a good sign.
Taking another step back to get distance between you and him, he definitely made you nervous. “I’m hoping to get to that point some day. The way I feel now when I’m running is no where near that.” You replied as you start stretching, hoping that he’d get the sign that you would like to get back to your exercise.
“I hate to be so forward but I was wondering if I could have your number.” He reached into the his pocket and brought out his phone. “Such a wonderful little invention. Everything you need, right in the palm of your hand.” He smiled at you and tried to hand you his phone. You didn’t take it right away.
“I don’t even know your name.” You said, you were very wary of not just him but giving your number out to anyone.
“Pardon my rudeness. I am Count Dracula.”
“Oh a count? I hope you don’t expect me to curtsy or anything. I’m (y/n), no fancy title even though I always thought Duchess (y/n) had a ring to it.” You we’re starting to ease your guard down and you don’t know why, maybe because you knew that you would be on your way soon.
“Well may I have your number Duchess (y/n)? I would like to be able to contact you again.” He asked. You thought it over and everything in your body told you to say no but you never did have the best listening skills.
“Oh god, now that someone else says it out loud it sounds so pretentious. I’ll stick with no fancy title.” You shake your head and take his phone from his hand, typing in your name and number before handing it back to him.
“Just (y/n) it is.” He said, you’re glad he had dropped the fake title you had wanted and not teased you for it. He looked at the new contact in his phone and smiled. “I’ll let you return to your activities. I look forward to meeting again.” He walked away and you couldn’t help your eyes from following his dark figure. He was kinda attractive, wasn’t he? But another part of your brain couldn’t help but ask why in the world would you give him your number. You had no idea who he was, he could be dangerous. You sighed and then decided to finish your exercise with a light jog.
—————-
The side of your brain that questioned why you would give that man, Dracula, your number in the first place won out on your way home. You were already thinking of excuses to tell him when ever he did reach out. Or you could just ignore him. You were liking that idea more, you weren’t one for confrontation and you figured ignoring him would be the easy way out. But on the other hand you thought about all the times you complained about not having someone to go out with. Maybe he could be that person, just a friend that you go out on the town with. Your mind kept running the two options over and over in your head that by the time you actually got home you had a headache. You decided that you needed to calm down, besides maybe he wouldn’t even text or call you. You let out a loud sigh and knew the perfect solution to your problem.
Forty-five minutes later you were fresh out the shower, in your pajamas with a glass of wine in hand and deciding on what movie to watch to help the night go by. You clicked on one that seemed entertaining enough. Just as you really settled in, your phone let out a ding that meant you had a new notification.
“Oh god” you mumbled under your breath. You didn’t even have to look at it, you knew who it was and you still hadn’t chosen which plan of action you were gonna take. You figured that you would know whenever the time came but now here it was but you still had no idea how to handle it. It wasn’t that you weren’t interested in Dracula, there was something about him that made you want to know more about him, something that made you give him your real number in the first place. You didn’t know what it was but you were just wanting to be cautious because he set off all kinds of alarms for you too, it wasn’t hard to tell from your short interaction that there was more to him than what meets the eye.
A few minutes passed as you thought through it all and in the end you picked you up your phone just to at least see what he sent.
I hope you survived the rest of your exercise, I’d be sad that I wouldn’t get to know you more if you didn’t. -Dracula
You couldn’t help the smile that came as you read the text. You looked at the message for a couple seconds before you knew that just ignoring him wouldn’t be an option for you. You wanted to respond so you did.
It was a close call there for a while but I pulled through. It’s gonna take something more than a little running to take me out.
You hit send and then placed the phone down. Your focus went back to the movie but you were partially waiting on your phone to make a noise again. It seemed like forever but it was only 5 minutes later when your phone dinged again. This time you didn’t wait to open the message.
I am beyond relieved that you made it. It would have been very hard to ask you to dinner if you did not.
Now you were full out smiling. Dinner? You couldn’t pass up on a nice dinner, could you? That would just be considered rude. You typed your reply.
Dinner? Was that your way of asking me?
You received a reply immediately. You could tell you were already liking this energy, fast text backs were good right?
Would you like to accompany me to dinner tomorrow night? 8 pm? That’s my way of asking you unless you would like something more formal, duchess (y/n).
You knew the mentioning of always wanting to be a duchess would come back to bite you but you didn’t mind the teasing at all.
I should say no just for you bringing that back up. But I’m not so cruel, as long as you never call me that again. Tomorrow night sounds perfect.
He replies one more time before you go back to the movie, I can’t wait to see you again.
It was surprising how little the world seemed to think Dennis -- or Denisovich, as his dear Papa Drac affectionately called him -- observed.
