Happy RQ Wednesday! I'm sending two your way this week! First one, thoughts on the Countdown finale cause I have THOUGHTS 👀

MARK X AMBER X JULIO

Okay, so it seems like Amber's really starting to rethink her choice in Julio lol. Everything is domestic and humdrum, normal, everything in the house organized in what seems to be his doctor OCD, and it's making her itch. 😂

She's bored already with him, whereas with Mark there are sparks but potentially no stability, which seems to be what she's afraid of. That and him proving her instincts kind of right when he's over here having one-night stands with fellow officers. 😂 (Though it was kind of sad/satisfying to see him kicking himself over that decision afterward.)

On one hand, realistically, what does Amber expect him to do? Be celibate while he waits for her to change her mind about him? At the same time though, I get why she doesn't believe he has conviction about his feelings for her because he's over here jumping into bed with random women. Not really a testament of love or caring about a "what could be" relationship. 🥲

However, he sooo got her all whipped up in that office, talking about their connection. 😏 I did have to laugh when he said "opposites don't really attract" when it comes to law enforcement x normal people, because I legit had a line in reader's vows in 'Til When Do Us Part / A Once and Future Thing that was exactly about them being "opposites" that do indeed attract. 😂

With that though, I meant it more like their personalities are opposites that complement one another. Reader in that series has grown up in the world of law enforcement and works for the government. She's been exposed to that world a lot more than the average person, so she "gets it" enough to be a good partner for him. (Or at least, that was my hope lol)

VILLAIN #2

As for Todd, it wasn't a surprise that he was in law enforcement, let alone FBI. I had my own suspicions on that one early on, but I was SHOOK when it was revealed that his best friend was the one his wife was cheating on him with. I see now why he started on his villain arc for that 😭

I'm still not totally clear on why Todd wants to take out the governor and/or the president though. How do you extrapolate from cheating wife with work friend to = the president is responsible?? Idk dude.

HOWEVER. Amber getting taken on the back of her sexual/emotional tension-charged convo with Mark had my angsty romance heart tingling. We didn't hear the shot go off at the end though, so there's hope at least. I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ENDED IT THERE without us knowing if they'll get a season 2!!! Still not the cliffhanger I expected, but... I hope we get to see where this goes.

Aside from the obvious Amber save (and seeing Mark go unhinged looking for her), I still want to meet Melinda and Rachel in S2. Also would love to see if Bell supports Evan through dealing with her sister's coma. Maybe they get to have their side plot explored more too. 💜

Exactly.😑 it's shit, is what it is. Not even fun shit. Can't even keep its character skillset straight for 13 little episodes. Lamest fucking abduction of law enforcement I've seen, possibly.

Had a post-episode discussion with my teenager. They think the show should've drawn out the Volchek storyline more and had a better payout, instead of how they quickly resolved it and started a new case. There should've been more fallout from Meachum not telling his team about his tumor and putting them in danger. The task force leader should've died or at least been in the ICU after Volchek stabbed him, and Meachum should've had to lead the task force and have more problems about it. One of Finau's kids should've died when they ran into Volchek's partner at the bomb site. In the early episodes, they killed someone on the task force too quickly, before we even knew him or cared about them, and since then there's been no actual serious collateral damage.

Since Meacham was having a migraine during the Volchek chase, he shouldn't have magically been able to make the shot. He should've missed, Volchek should've gotten away again and managed to blow up one of the trucks.

We didn't even fucking get an exploding toilet, ffs. At least Lethal Weapon felt like it had STAKES.

Kiddo says they don't care about the current case, because the writers are doing all the interesting parts off screen and focusing too much on the romantic relationships. Also, a plot where the president is being targeted by a terrorist is not intriguing enough when the current irl president is who he is, and we don't care about the fake gavin newsom, either.

Overall, the writers did not have the chops to pull off anything interesting. They let suspense opportunities fizzle impotently, and stretched their ensemble storytelling so thin it was superficial.

Amber can get shot and put the task force out of its misery, tbh. Idc. I can't believe we wasted 10 weeks on this fucking pointless show.

Oh, and the smoothing over of the bad blood between blythe and secret service has been done off screen with a blip of dialogue from a different minor character to blythe.🙄
