Counter-X was something of a forerunner to Nu-Marvel, in that they hired superstar Vertigo writer Warren Ellis to reinvigorate the lower-tier X books. They are very much of their time (Gen X had a storyline inspired by the Columbine shootings) but are today mostly remembered for having noted creeps Ellis and Brian Wood on writing duties. X Man had Ariel Ollivetti art.
