As underground as the bloodsport “ULTRAKILL” was, its ringleaders seemed to have a flair for the flashy and dramatic; the Council had prepared tonight’s arena with double the amount of early-round holographic Filth for its contenders to raze through. If its players could prove their brutality by the manner in which they stomped heads out, they’d get precious, valued points.
The unspoken rules of ULTRAKILL were as such:
No weak shit.
No guns.
Highest score at timer wins.
Whichever one was more audibly favored by the crowd was further granted hard-light armor deployed via contestants’ special bodysuits, and crude weaponry to use to their advantage. Fighting for score was easier without the opponent in the way to steal your kills, but it made for better spectacle to keep the duel to the later rounds. Which were bound to happen soon enough, given two pros were given the spotlight tonight. Tonight’s participants were reigning champ Vee and formerly-retired challenger Vii ( @counterricoshot ); the crowd, initially unsuspecting of the return of the latter, now rallied hard to cheer them on. Everyone loved a good comeback-kid story, especially with the added drama of a sibling rivalry.
“I can’t believe you have a fucking twin and that you go by the same fucking name,” Mira mutters under her breath, arms folded and legs crossed as she observed the match beside the arena. “At least win, for God’s sake.” She was pissed. The reason Vee came to classes with bruises and cuts was because of this stupid fight club hard-light nerdy bullshit?! She wished it was something simpler, like if Vee secretly had a favorite flight of stairs to fall down on every night. But Vee had finally relented and invited its friend over, believing it best for her to see with her own eyes than if it were to explain in words. And to those eyes, it was yet to be seen whether all this was worth the trouble.
“Is there someone you’re doing this for?” Vee asks aloud to its nearby opponent, heel crushing through another holographic enemy. It’s down by a couple thousand points tonight. If that bothers him at the moment, he doesn’t let it show.
“You’re trying harder tonight than I’ve ever seen you try at anything, ‘Vii’.”
