Request: Hello you beautiful writing angel I have been thinking and thinking about what to request and I’ve come up with absolutely nothing but today was a very long shitty day at work and so I was wondering if you could write something with Seungcheol? Something real warm and fluffy and full of love and lots of hugs ☹️
Pairing: Seungcheol x Reader
Seungcheol’s fingers were shaking as he pressed down at his collar for the dozenth time. Staring nervously into the mirror, he shook out his hair, only to push it back across his forehead again. Tonight. Tonight, would be the night.
He felt as if he would vomit as he narrowed his eyes at his own reflection.
He was going to confess to you and you seemingly had no idea.
He had to be smooth. He had to be suave. He was going to pull this off.
And you were going to fall hopelessly in love with him.
That was the plan anyway.
He had been brainstorming the perfect scenario for weeks. Inviting you over for dinner, impressing you with his culinary skills, and sealing the night with a kiss. That was the three-part plan. He had even come up with a PowerPoint once to go over the finer details with a relatively unenthused Wonwoo and Mingyu.
Who needed their approval anyway? Not him. He was going to win hearts all on his own.
He had already accomplished the first step. He had invited you over to the Seventeen dormitories while holding his breath, waiting for any sign of doubt in your response.
But there had been no doubt at all. You seemed relatively pleased with the idea.
Which made his confidence soar.
Well, in the moment it had made his confidence soar. In this moment, he just felt queasy.
Hearing a buzz sound at the door, he thought he would jump right through his own skin from the mere sound alone.
Heaving a deep breath, Seungcheol gave himself one last nod. “You so have this.”
He hurried down the hallway, his socks skidding across the wooden floor at top speed. Coming to a halt before the apartment’s communication system, he straightened his shirt as if you were already standing before him. “Yep, totally got this.”
“I forgot my key,” Vernon’s voice whined through the speaker as Seungcheol pressed at it with trembling hands.
“Aish,” he grumbled, pinching the bridge of his nose with two fingers. “You have really bad timing.”
“Do I?” Vernon’s amused voice responded over the crackling system. “I thought it was perfect. I can let Y/N in with me!’
Seungcheol swallowed a bit too hard as he pounded at the keypad. “Oh.”
“Hi, Seungcheollie!” your voice sailed toward him from floors below. It was as if you were a songbird, reserving your voice for him and him alone.
He took in a sigh, trying to steady his heartbeat. Surely it wasn’t normal for one human to have this sort of effect on another.
“Hello,” he cooed back in the deepest octave he could muster. “I’ll buzz you in.”
“Does he have a cold?” you asked curiously. Seungcheol’s voice sounded unhealthily raspy today.
Vernon stifled a laugh as he set a hand on your shoulder. “He’s been bitten by a bug. Seems to only act up when you’re around actually.”
As if Vernon had summoned him with his words, Seungcheol ripped open the door, leveling him with a stare. “I am quite fine, thank you.”
“Oh good!” you chuckled, pushing past Seungcheol to enter the dorm. “I don’t want to catch what you have.”
“Yeah,” Vernon grumbled moodily, annoyed with the stern expressions from his leader. “Seems pretty serious.”
“You know what’s serious, Choi Hansol?” Seungcheol threatened below his breath.
You looked toward the two men with wide eyes, waiting for Coups to finish his sentence.
“I dunno,” Vernon grinned, overtly aware of your attention. “What’s so serious?”
Seungcheol blinked a few times before glancing at you and laughing nervously. “My…my love and devotion for the younger members of my team. Yes, you go into that dorm and relax, you – you adorable man, you.”
“Good save,” Vernon laughed. “I’ll go relax then.”
Seungcheol let out a sigh as he shook his head, shutting the door behind him. “Y/N, thanks for coming.”
“No need to thank me,” you smiled. “I will appear whenever there are promises of food…and good company.”
Seungcheol seemed to brighten up at the statement, shuffling past you and toward the kitchen. “I actually got you- “
You followed behind him, anticipating another ending to his sentence. “Got me?”
“They were just here…” he murmured, spinning around the space. “I just saw it literally two seconds ago.”
“What was it?” you asked, tilting your head. “Maybe I can help you look for it?”
“No,” he grumbled, running a hand through his hair. It had seemed to grow more and more disheveled as you stood there. “Jeonghan!”
You lifted your brows as he called out the name of his fellow member again, only stopping once he appeared.
“What’s all the yelling for?” Jeonghan spoke through a bored yawn.
“Um, did you happen to see the bundle that was on the counter?” Seungcheol asked, motioning to the granite. “You know, pinks, purples…ribbon?”
“Oh!” Jeonghan gasped with wide eyes before letting his expression fall into boredom again. “No, I have literally no idea what you’re talking about.”
“You were the last one in here,” Seungcheol whined. “The bouquet. The bouquet of daisies and roses and- “
“That bundle,” Jeonghan confirmed. “Why didn’t you just ask me what I did with the fresh flowers?”
You tried to stifle a giggle as Seungcheol put his face in his hands. “Because I was at least attempting to keep it a surprise.”
“What’s the point?” Jeonghan asked. ‘If Y/N wants to go see them, I put them in a vase in the living room.”
“You…you did?” Seungcheol croaked.
“Yep,” Jeonghan nodded with little worry. “it’s been weeks since you’ve brought in fresh flowers. It really brightens up the place.”
With that, Jeonghan turned on his heel and headed back in the direction from where he came. Seungcheol let out a low, quiet groan with his departure.
Placing a light hand on the man’s shoulder, you gave him a gentle pat. “Everything okay?”
“Yep,” he murmured. “Just fine. I had…I had uh, gotten you flowers? In thanks for joining me for dinner, but it seems Jeonghan had other plans for them.”
You let out a small laugh before pulling him into an embrace. “That was a sweet thought, Coups. I guess I’ll just have to come over to see them now.”
Seungcheol let out a rasp of breath as you held him, only feeling his agreeanment as his head bobbed beside yours. “Right, you’ll just have to visit…again.”
“You don’t have to feed me next time if you don’t want,” you smiled softly, pulling away from him. “I’ll come over free of charge, just for the viewing.”
Seungcheol gave you a relieved smile. “Cool.”
You nodded more to yourself than to him. The small action seemed to ease him, and in turn ease you. The air had felt thick since you had stepped into the dorm, Seungcheol’s awkward aura filling every available space between the two of you. It was difficult to normalize the feeling. Usually it was so easy to be with him, always enjoyable. But this time…this was different.
You would be a fool to not realize the reasoning, but you weren’t sure if you were quite ready to admit it to yourself. Spending time with Seungcheol had become one of your favorite hobbies, but you slowly started to notice differences from your first initial meetings. His focus on you was softer, his voice was gentle, and his hands were more…occupied.
Whether fiddling nervously with themselves or placing an occasional hand on your shoulder or knee, he had shown you his intentions in small actions, not in events like tonight.
But if this was how he wanted to convey his feelings toward you, you would allow him.
He’d verbalize it eventually. Until then, you were simply enjoying his company.
And watching his friends drive him nuts.
“Why don’t you go sit in the living area?” he tried. “I’ll get dinner on some plates and set up the dining room.”
“Let me help you!” you volunteered. “Please, it’s the least I can do with you putting so much work into this meal.”
“I hope you like it,” he smiled, shuffling over to the stove. Grabbing the handle to the lid covering a pot simmering there, he pulled it off excitedly. “It’s my mom’s- “
He paused for a moment, looking blankly into the container.
“Can you not remember the name of it?” you chuckled, standing on your tip toes to look over his shoulder. The smile that had previously set on your lips quickly fell off. The pot was empty.
“It...I...” he whispered, attempting to grasp the words that were failing him.
Just as he began to close the lid, a clueless Mingyu and Wonwoo entered the room, bare plates in hand.
“Ah! There’s our wonderful leader!” Mingyu gasped. “Thanks for handling dinner!”
“It’s so nice to come in after practice and have a home cooked meal,” Wonwoo nodded, setting the dishes in the sink. “Of course we’ll handle the mess later.”
“Of course,” Mingyu nodded with a chuckle. “Much later.”
Both boys patted Seungcheol on the back as they leaned against the counter in turn, sizing up my presence.
Seungcheol lifted his eyes from his whitened knuckles, clenching the lid of the pot with silent rage.
“What are you two up to?” Mingyu asked, tilting his head. You opened your mouth, only to close it again as you surveyed Seungcheol, his annoyance and irritation slowly chipping away at his normally placid demeanor.
Seungcheol glanced helplessly from you to the two members and back to you again. With a heavy sigh, he finally willed himself to drop the lid and quietly leave the room.
“What’s wrong with him?” Wonwoo asked, furrowing his brows.
“I...I uh,” you said quietly, capable of only looking at the now vacant path that Seungcheol had taken. “I think he intended that to be our dinner.”
“It was our-” Mingyu began, realization slowly hitting him. “Oh.”
“I bet those flowers...” Wonwoo whispered, looking at Mingyu with wide eyes. “We’re all big, giant-headed, idiots.”
“We have to apologize!” Mingyu gasped, his hands sliding to cup either side of his face. “We have to order takeout!”
“Hold on the apology,” you chuckled, shaking your head. “But the take out may not be a bad idea. Let me talk to him first.”
Wonwoo and MIngyu both nodded as you began to shuffle down the hallway and towards Seungcheol’s bedroom. After peaking your head past the doorway, you were only greeted by a preoccupied Woozi.
“He climbed out the window,” the stern boy said lazily, not even bothering to look up from the editing program on his computer.
“I’m sorry, he what?” you choked, trying to hide the dismay on your face.
“Onto the fire escape,” Woozi sighed, finally giving you a disinterested glance. “He goes onto the roof sometimes to get away from eleven very specific annoyances.”
Woozi lifted his brows, a silent question of why he would ever be included in the masses.
“Right,” you clucked, gliding past him. You drew the curtain aside from the windows, and surveyed the rickety looking fire escape below. Hauling in a deep breath, you stepped a tentative foot onto the metal, and only let out a sigh once you were stable on it’s surface. Without bothering to look down, you continued onto the narrow ladder and began to climb.
“Coups,” you groaned, the closer you crawled toward the roof. “Damnit Coups, if I fall to my death, this is going down as the worst date in the history of ever.”
“Date?” you heard a voice croak. You looked up only to see the top half of Seungcheol’s head sticking over the edge of the concrete.
You could only shake your head as more of his torso appeared, offering his hands to help pull you up. Swinging your leg over the brick edge, you still found yourself holding tight to him as you regained your footing.
“You’re considering this a date?”
You rolled your eyes as you directed your gaze to his face, even in the dim lighting of the evening, you could see his expression was one of hope.
“I’m not an idiot,” you chuckled. “Flowers, cooking for me? You’re a good friend, but not THAT good.”
“Gee thanks,” he grumbled. “So I’m a lousy date too. Everything was ruined.”
“Not everything,” you said with a small smile. You finally mustered up the courage to glance past Seungcheol and toward the glowing city below. It was beautiful. Lifting a hand, you motioned to the scenery around you. “You didn’t think to share this with me?”
“I didn’t know you would want me too,” he whispered, watching you instead of bothering to look at the sky. “I guess it’s kind of hard to put things like this into perspective.”
“What do you mean?” you asked, looking toward him again.
“I guess normally beautiful things pale in comparison,” he said quietly. “When you have something so stunningly beautiful to hold your attention.”
“Surely I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you hummed, feeling heat rise up your neck.
“Of course you do,” he said, smiling slowly. He let his face approach yours in small increments, his nose nearly touching yours. “You must get mesmerized every time you look into the mirror.”
“Hardly,” you coughed, averting your eyes to his lips. They had grown dangerously close to yours.
“I’m sorry,” he breathed.
“Letting Jeonghan intercept your flowers...allowing for Wonwoo and MIngyu to eat the food I prepared...”
“You didn’t let any-” you began, only for him to cut you off.
“But mostly,” he sighed. “I’m sorry for not kissing you sooner.”
“Coups,” you muttered, tilting your head. “You haven’t even kiss-”
You didn’t realize you had been holding your breath until Seungcheol’s lips crashed into yours. The usually calm and level headed leader allowed himself to unleash his emotions in the small movement, putting forth every emotion he had been bottling up for months. You tried to keep from gasping as his lips pressed against yours, the action ungraceful, but still pleasant. He kissed with eagerness and sincerity, causing your stomach to knot and your mind to go dizzy. Before you could even realize, he was pulling away again, his lips swollen and his eyes half-lidded.
“You didn’t need to apologize for that,” you said breathlessly. “But I’m glad you did.”
“Hey,” he grinned, equally as out of breath. “Better late than never.”
