There was a land far away.
Surrounded by stone walls and high, towering castles, there was a land. Around the walls sprouted the greenest grass and the highest trees. It was a land fitting for queens.
Too bad that the land, far away, existed in the minds of two girls. They knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that the world was not real. Though, they liked to pretend. It was a nice way to escape the lives of the children of wealthy families.
Maka and Akihisa were the daughters of two rivals, though that didn't stop their friendship from blossoming. So, every night, they'd meet each other under the moon in the old park by the schoolyard. And every night they would talk about everything and nothing. Before they'd leave, they'd make a promise that they would come back the next night, and repeat the same process. It was a bond that ran deeper than friendship.
One day, one of the girls did not return. Maka had sat, waiting for the other for a long time, before finally giving up, and heading back home. Little did she know that she was waiting for a scolding from her father.
Yes, Akihisa's family had found out about the escapades she had gone on every night for the past year and a half. Naturally, the families forbade the two girls from ever seeing each other, going as far to move them from the schools.
Then, one bright day, under the laughing sun of Death City, they found each other again, in a crowded market. Almost unrecognizable due to the years apart, they stared at one another. Suddenly, and unanimously, they realized who the other was.
Finally, they could go back to the far away land, even if it were for only a minute.
