“Dance Around Me” by Courtesy Knave. For more info, please check out our previous post here.
Courtesy Knave was one of the first indie bands to call Coachella, CA a home, as far as i know. I first saw the band at the locally-celebrated backyard venue “Grandmas” sometime in 2004, and I also met the band that night. Over the course of many years, the Courtesy Knave lead singer Benjamin Benitez and I would become great friends. I will always appreciate Ben for he was a spirit guide to me as I started my own band and music career; my own pursuit of music would not be possible without the encouragement I received from Ben. After Courtesy Knave disbanded, he started The Movie Colony, before moving to Los Angeles, and re-incarnating Courtesy Knave, playing some big shows along the way. I am certain, since I have heard them played in his Palm Desert apartment (and various parking lots in the Coachella Valley), that Ben has a stacked vault of unreleased material. He is a talented songwriter, and it’s too bad he has disappeared. I miss him, and you should too. Here is “Tragic Happenings” and “Dance Around Me” from the band’s 2005 EP.
