1 & 3 (favourite fic you wrote this year, and favourite line/scene)?
1. (answered)
3. This segment from Crescendo, Chapter 3. I still remember the mindset I was in when I wrote this and how smoothly the comparisons came to me. It’s that kinda zone a writer fights to have every day, but it only hits you once in a glorious shower of words every so often and then shoots out of reach again until it deems you worthy of another visit.
It was hard to fall asleep each night without the hymns sung from Noct’s voice underneath him. Like catching a beat in his head and unable to let it go, Noctis was his favorite song. He missed hitting those high notes when he pulled his back to his chest and rolled up into him. He missed making his name into a melody, spilling off that pretty, pink tongue. He missed the crescendo of his voice as Nyx bit down his chest.
He missed the high notes, the staccato breaths, the allegro race of his pulse conducted from beneath Nyx’s kiss. And he missed the low notes, too; the soft cadence of “good night” at the end of their long compositions, the chorus of him laughing with his friends as he came into the bar, and the nightly encores he awaited until Kingsglaive emptied with the last dregs of gin and it was just the two of them and Nyx’s piano left to serenade the remaining evening.
Prompt: "Put me down!"
“Put me down!”
Nyx winces at the shrill voice in his ear and simply adjusts his grip on Noctis. Sure, having the crown prince thrown over his shoulder like a sack of Leidan potatoes wasn’t very dignified for either of them, but that was the prince’s fault for sneaking off to get drunk.
“No can do, your highness. I have orders to escort you back to your rooms by any means necessary, and you certainly can’t make the walk in your current condition.”
Noctis, being seventeen and rebellious and unable to hold his liquor, is the definition of wasted. Nyx had been tasked with finding the prince after he neglected to show up to his lessons with Ignis. He’d eventually found Noctis on the roof of the Citadel, in the process of shotgunning a beer with his weird blonde civilian friend. At least eight more empty cans were strewn around the two. Nyx had called up Gladiolus and told the shield to “get your ass up here and babysit Noct’s drunk chocobo friend” while he went and fetched Noctis.
Noct had, of course, put up a fight; nothing that Nyx couldn’t deal with, of course, but it had ended up with the prince thrown over the glaive’s shoulder.
“Nyyyyyyyyyx,” Noctis whines. “C’mon, man, put me dowwwwwn.”
Nyx sighs and keeps on his path towards the elevator. Noctis whines again, high in his throat.
“’M gonna hurl if you don’t put me down.”
There’s a moment in between getting into the elevator and pushing the button for Noct’s floor where Nyx contemplates letting the prince drop to the ground. He instead banishes the thought and crouches down to set Noctis on his feet, then grabs an arm and hauls it over his shoulder. Noct makes a sound of protest but Nyx shushes him.
“Get over it, little prince. I don’t trust you to not run face-first into a wall, and if you get hurt it’s my neck on the line.”
Noctis grumbles something unintelligible and drops his head against Nyx’s shoulder in resigned defeat. Nyx sighs again.
The second he gets off his shift, a stiff drink of his own is the first thing he’s getting.
