As a medical professional, what is the primary thing people should know about the COVID-19 pandemic?
People should know and realize that Covid-19 is real and far different from the seasonal flu. Millions of lives have succumb due to this and more are still in the hospital bed fighting for their last breathe.
What significant experience have you encountered in this time of the pandemic that you can share with other people?
During the first height of covid back in 2020, I’ve witnessed how mentally and physically challenging and frustrating this pandemic can be not only to the patients but to the healthcare workers as well. I have prayed with a patient that tomorrow won’t be a downhill but rather recovery. I have held their hands to show that they’re not alone fighting for their health, when family were unable to. I’ve tried to give them positive spirits when I know that there was still no cure for it, although I believe that science experts have been working 24/7 to expedite a vaccine to curb the cases if not eliminate it. And lastly, to provide the heartbreaking news to family members that their loved one is “gone”.
What message can you give everyone in our situation and in fighting?
I applaud every healthcare worker/frontline worker risking their life to perform their jobs. You all are heroes. And your efforts are to be celebrated-everyday! Although the glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel is far from sight, let’s not forget to be that ray of hope that we are and be an advocate for the vaccine and science.
