Six months at Coworth Park
No, we didn't stay there for half a year :) But it's probably the only hotel in the world where I would.
On and off we've been going to Coworth Park, part of the Dorchester Collection, since summer 2014. In the hotel's own words: Coworth Park blends the warmth and comfort of a traditional country house hotel with an eccentric spirit, which is undeniably English and irrefutably modern. And it is just that!
The hotel has such a great atmosphere in any season. During summer, the meadow is in full bloom with flowers and the polo fields are green emeralds. In the autumn the grass is still green, but the orange hues of fallen leaves makes a striking display. In the winter, the foggy grounds kept alight by modern lighting makes it look still romantic.
The food is Michelin-star quality especially the afternoon tea. However, it's amazing how the hotel can be modern and down-to-earth at the same time. This quality is best experienced at The Barn restaurant - a sort of gastropub meets stylish lounge meets 5-star banquet. The staff are absolutely lovely and the food is downright Modern British. The kids menu is attractively priced at just £4.95 for under 5s, and £8.95 for 5+. This includes 3 courses and drink - fab!
We stayed in the Keysoe Suite. It's part of a collection of stable houses that were meticulously renovated to be like mews houses. The suite is itself luxurious and very child-friendly without taking away from the equestrian-themed décor. Some rooms are on two levels, but all of them look out into a large courtyard with beautiful shrubs and a giant tree in the middle. It reminds me of something you'd read about in a C.S. Lewis novel.
It's amazing how this hotel can cater for families and couples so effortlessly. I guess you can say that between the mansion and the stable houses, there's plenty of room for everyone to enjoy themselves.
Now for the best bit: they have a kid's house. That's right, it's a small detached house near the actual horse stables with a garden and inside is full-blown nursery. The staff, ambience and toys are amazing! So amazing, that it's the only place Aiden will run inside and forget about his parents. Anywhere else, we'd have to coax him to step in. At £15 for a 3-hour session, and £25 if you're not a hotel guest, it's a luxury that's well-priced and well-worth it.
What's on my wish-list? Horse riding lessons...can't wait for summer!
