Talking to non-crewers about coxing
I was inspired to share these typical responses by a recent conversation with my extended family. Let the irritation begin: “So do you have a paddle”
no dingus, i don't ROW, i COX, i YELL, i wouldn't have energy to yell if i was “using a PADDLE”
“You play the drum on the boat, right?”
THIS ISN’T DRAGON BOAT RACING DFJKSHGKJGHDSKJHGDKJ
“You probably get tired of always yelling, ‘Stroke!’” or (Row!)
yep because thats exactly how i correct form and the balance, works like a CHARM :))))))))))))!!!!!!!
“Coxman” “Cosin” “Cocsin” my eyes hurt from mispellings
Then the absolute BEST :))))) part of being a coxswain is explaining to people that you’re there just to yell, not get the full work out. I am a hostess and whenever someone asks about school and then sports I explain I'm in crew and they’re like, oh you row? Then this happens:
me: Actually no, I’m a coxswain, the person who sits in the boat and gives commands while yelling basically. them (not processing the fact that i commit my time to helping others improve on their rowing rather than me actually rowing): so whats the point.
me: *holding back the annoyed yappy bitch i am* THE POINT IS THAT I ENJOY CONTROLLING AND COMMANDING
sorry i just hate going through these dumb conversations over and over with different people all the time. can the world get cultured in rowing as it is in other sports. yours truly, crewers.
