Sorry I haven't been posting that much extrapolative work, I have been doing this course online, and it takes away time to read and extrapolate. For now.
Let's talk about the learning platforms I use to keep my mind sharp, and allows me to continue my learning on some subjects, and opens doors to other subjects.
So lets say you have always wanted to return to school, but you don't have the funds. EDx, and Alison are my go to places to learn a subject. EDx costs $50-$600
Alison cost $20-$120
You can choose to pay, and receive a certificate at the end of your self-paced learning, or you can do it for free and not receive a piece of paper/digital confirmation that you have completed the courses your heart desires.
These are my go-to sites because I love the differences in them. Alison is more like a community college experience, and EDx is a more prestigious university experience. I use this experience to prime myself for university. For example, I was trying my best at pre-calculus, and failed out of the course, but I can re-audit the class if I want to, but I know, like the sky can be blue, that I will never get trigonometry down, let alone calculus.
I am learning a lot about myself, like my auditory processing disorder, and my block learning capacity. I am still tempted to try and learn something when the wall of boredom, no, when the flavour of interest becomes boring, no, when the impassible hedge of lack of motivation hits. I know for school I have to allow my grades to plummet during this time, but I still have to show up and do the work and the extra readings.
You don't even need your highschool diploma to do the courses that hold your interest. You just need to sit down and listen to the lessons and lectures, and write out the important stuff. With Alison, depending on the course, there is a small multiple choice test at the end where you need to pass with 80s to get the certificate. With EDx, there are activities, and a discussion board, and tests sprinkled throughout the course. Now I have never paid for anything on EDx, I have only audited the courses because I was so worried about my mental health and the fact that I am flushed with my budget means I don't have a lot of spare money to invest in myself. But if you are paying for the class, you might only need a 50% to pass, maybe higher.
Doing these courses has improved my confidence, in an area I never thought would get acknowledged again. In highschool I passed in the 60s, but these courses, I am passing with 80's. Hell the diagnostic exam that one psych course held, I passed with an 86%. I never thought I would do well in school, but here I am killing it. Mind you these are "at your own pace" style of remote learning.
So once I am done with my intro to clinical psych on EDx course, I will try and find more things to read about.
