looks: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 personality: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 attraction: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 would they date them: yes | no favorite thing about them: the fact that he’s so responsible yet humble about it. he has such a big family , and doubtless as the eldest has to take care of his siblings a lot. but he doesn’t ever talk about how tiring it is around his team ( even when the team is tiring , too ). he gets good grades but he doesn’t show off , he gets injured and tries to make sure that nobody feels guilty for him. he’s just ... a really humble person who handles everything very responsibly and simply. shimizu likes that he can manage a lot of duties like school and the team and family , and that he doesn’t complain about them. because to her , that speaks volumes about his strength and maturity. so she really really likes that about him. like a lot. she likes him so much it’s sick. least favorite thing about them: this is kind of hypocritical , but one of shimizu’s faults is being a hypocrite herself , so ... she sometimes feels irritated that he’s oblivious and can’t always read the room. it’s not like she’s expressive herself , and sometimes she doesn’t use words properly , but there are times when she selfishly believes that daichi should know how to read her mind and do what she wants ( i.e. hold her hand , come to bed early , wipe his spot at the table or stuff like that ). so when he doesn’t understand the fact that her STARING RIGHT AT HIM means she wants a kiss , she gets frustrated. poor guy.

The Ushijima family tends to follow a strict set of rules and routines. Grandparents, mother, son, and yes, even dog: everything is highly ritualised and everyone knows their own place, their duties, where they fit in this well-oiled (if worn and a bit rusty) machine. Then again, a few rogue members of the family have been known to test the limits of te rules, every now and again. Wakatoshi had allowed complete strangers on campus for the sake of volleyball and sportsmanship, for instance.

... and his dog had decided to run out after a squirrel, apparently. Fair enough. First time he sees it happen, but he supposes animals cannot be entirely to blame for following their instincts (it must be his own fault, surely, a shortcoming in his training or a relaxation of attention Kumo took advantage of). 

Anyway. 

If there is one thing he expected less than his usually obedient dog running off without warning, it would be to find the mutt sat at the feet of a familiar silhouette. Slowing down his pace, gearing down from running after Kumo to walking up to Karasuno’s captain, Wakatoshi looks at him, and blinks (clearly, neither of them had expected this, despite the few times they had crossed paths in the park with their respective canine companions). 

“Sawamura.” Greeting is short, but polite. At Daichi’s feet, Kumo wags his tail, visibly very satisfied with himself (Wakatoshi silently hopes the poor squirrel managed to escape unscathed). “My apologies. He ran off. I’m surrpised he stopped for you.” A good thing Kumo apparently recognised Daichi and stayed put - and vice versa. Only upon getting closer does he notice that the other captain seems... a little out of breath. “... he didn’t stop for you, did he.” Suddenly he considers the other possibility: that Kumo mistook Daichi’s attempts at catching him as a game. Sigh.

step one. asahi sighs — tips his head back & waits for the breeze to make his next breath feel fresh. the breeze doesn’t blow. It’s  a humid, stagnant day. It’s unseasonal. an unwelcome gnat lands on his eyebrow.  

this is not the plan.  nonetheless, asahi proceeds to step two.

step two. invigorated by the fresh air, asahi turns to daichi - his captain, his friend. the gnat is agitated & settles on his nose. asahi puts off a sneeze. he’s got a conversation to start. the kind that would make the cheesiest of movies jealous because asahi is already nostalgic for the end of the era that he’s shared with daichi, with sugawara, with kiyoko. 

he coughs & readies himself to begin —

step three. asahi cuts himself off. the gnat has flown into his mouth, asahi is coughing, & daichi looks like he already knew what asahi is about to say. in all fairness, daichi probably does know. 

. . . but still. 

                ‘ oh, come on. what’s wrong with indulging in a bit of nostalgia? ‘ 

he’s not complaining, really. except for the fact he is.  & for what?

AFTER  junior high school passes, high school seems like a clean slate. kiyoko doesn’t truly think of it as a chance to reinvent herself or become someone different ; rather, it’s a time to focus more on her studies & work towards a better career. & although junior high was fun in its own right, she’s already decided to keep more to herself as a first year student ...

[ it’s better that way, isn’t it ? ] clubs can be nice, but she’s not interested in them right now. perhaps it’s a bit selfish to decide immediately, but she’s sure this is better for her. it seems smart. & fortunately, most club recruiters accepted her decision to not join. only ... rejecting a few didn’t automatically bar her from still being approached, like any other first year likely was. she was still an opportune target for recruitment, for academic, hobby, & sports clubs all alike :  ‘  sorry. i’m not planning on joining any clubs, actually ...  ’

@cpdaichi asked — walks up behind her and wraps his arms around her waist, kissing her cheek and then resting his chin on her shoulder. ‘ morning, sweetheart. ’

              peaceful mornings are hard to come by , and even harder to appreciate. in their house , something always interrupts them— the dog needing a walk or a bit of attention , daichi’s work calling him for duty , assorted housework that’s piled up over time … even when shimizu feels that she has a morning worth relaxing for , her hands always busy themselves doing a task she’d meant to start earlier.

             it’s a rarity that she ever gives into the lull of a quiet morning and treats herself to a comfortable past-time like reading. the book she’d been meaning to start had sat on their bedside table for weeks untouched , and it was becoming hard to look at like that. rather than let it go to waste , continuing to sit there , shimizu had taken it with her to read in the morning. there were still dishes in the sink from last night’s dinner , and the kitchen could use a good sweeping , but shimizu planted herself just so and focused her attention on the book in hand. those other things could wait , she’d decided.

             for the half hour or so that waking up early had afforded her , she’d actually made decent progress through the book. one-fourth of the story lay in turned pages beneath her hand , and the remaining three-fourths just ahead. she moves to turn another page , pinching the corner of the paper between her thumb and forefinger , before she feels something slide around her waist and squeeze. warm. and it smells good. but it still surprises her , and shimizu ends up pinching the page tightly on instinct.

             “  you almost made me lose my place ,  ”  it sounds like a scold delivered in her characteristically blunt way , but shimizu still slides her hand to the arms he’s wrapped around her waist and gives the top of his forearm a gentle stroke like one might for a cat. she leans into him ever so slightly , and if he didn’t know any better , then maybe he wouldn’t even notice the weight at all. her expression certainly doesn’t let on that she actually enjoys him sneaking up like this , nor does the way she diffusively asks next ,  “  … are you here because you’re hungry ?  ”
