Years We've Known Each Other: Roughly 22

How We Met: Preschool

Profession: Web Developer

Kelsey did WDI about nine months after I did after working in the entertainment industry for a time.  My parents thought I was being too pushy about suggesting she try it but deep down, I knew Kelsey would kick butt at coding like she does at so many other things.

We talk almost every day so it seems fitting that I also decided it was time for Kelsey to learn how to knit.  After a practice swatch or two, she decided to take on a project that I would have questioned for myself even now, a twelve foot scarf worn by Tom Baker as The Doctor.  (The pattern can be found here.)

She's done an amazing job so far:

And for an understanding of how long this scarf is, here it is laying on the floor next to a large floor rug.  Those skinny things at the top are the needles she's been using so this has definitely been a labor of love.

I will update the photos when she finishes the project because it really is impressive, especially for a first project.

Kelsey is a Ruby on Rails and Angular developer.  In WDI, she built some pretty cool things like LAEvents which allows users to submit all the interesting things happening around LA and see what else they would be into that other users posted.

Cool Person I Know and Project Photos

In the last year, I have attempted to persuade many of my friends to give either coding or knitting (or both) a chance.

It's interesting to witness them explore the two different creative mediums and who takes to different kinds of projects and how they conquer them.

Rather than showcasing only what I'm making or talking about, I'm going to start bragging about all the cool things that my friends do as well.  All of these posts will be tagged with CPiK (Cool Person I Know).

These friends are taking on some really cool projects, both code and knitting related so I'm excited to share their work.

I'm also going to start tapping into the photos of knitting projects I've completed in the past couple months (and maybe updates on this bigger project).  I'm still brainstorming the right fashion with which do this because I would like to combine my product management skills in with these photos but you can find them under the tag KnitPics.

Stream and Pre-Order the Certain People I Know LP on the A.V. Club + updates on the Joie De Vivre and Dowsing albums!

The time has finally come!  We are now officially launching pre-order for the incredible self-titled effort from Certain People I Know (featuring members of Braid, Hey Mercedes, and The Bomb).  We can’t say how much we love this album.  What’s that?  You want to hear the WHOLE THING?  Well, you can stream it all at one of our favorite websites ever, the A.V. Club section on the Onion.  Then rush back to our store and pre-order it!  It will be coming in mid to late July.  On a side note, last year the Onion had a show on Comedy Central called the Sports Dome and it was one of favorite shows. It was a true shame it only ran a season, and I am publicly calling BS!

For those of you wondering what the status of your Joie De Vivre and Dowsing pre-orders, here is your update!  The Joie De Vivre LPs (We’re All Better Than This andSummer Months) have come in, and they look beautiful.  Take a gander:

  We have already packed up and shipped all those pre-orders, so if you haven’t gotten it yet, it’s on the way.  We’ve seen some Facebook/Tumblr posts about it arriving already, and we can’t wait to see some more.  The We’re All Better Than This CD should arrive next week, so any order containing that will go out then.

The Dowsing albums are currently en route to CYLS HQ and should also arrive some time in the next week or so.  As soon as we get them, we will bust our butts to get them to you ASAP.  IF YOU ORDERED A DOWSING ALBUM WITH YOUR JOIE DE VIVRE ORDER, THEY WILL ALL SHIP WITH THE DOWSING PRE-ORDERS.  Keep that in mind if you haven’t gotten your Joie De Vivre album yet.  In the meantime, you can find both LPs for sale on iTunes, Amazon, etc, as well as our Bandcamp.

If you visit the lovely Alternative Press website now, you can stream a new Certain People I Know song entitled King of Shots.  You can also hear/download another song,Make It Up from their debut LP from the CYLS Sampler #4 on our Bandcamp page.  The Self-Titled album will be available for full streaming and pre-order very soon, available on CD and LP.
