The Capitol has a Unique Opportunity

New to the games this year, the tributes each are given a piece of parchment, a pen, and an envelope. They are told: "You can write to anyone within your district, and on the day of your death the letter will be sent to that person." Who would you write to? Your parents, a best friend? The choice is yours.

Your assignment is to send a letter to someone close with your character from home. The person does not matter so long as you are creative about it, and stay in character! Please submit this prompt to us by Sunday Evening EST before midnight. Any questions, please ask!

Prompt 1: Family.

Can I ask you a few questions about your family back home?

Family? Um, yeah. I guess so. I should probably tell you I've been drinking so whatever I say is, uh... just go ahead.

Do you have any siblings?

No. I'm an only child. Thank God.

What is your relationship with your parents like?

I don't have a relationship with my parents.

What would you say is your role in the home?

I'm not in the house very often. I train and I guess I take care of myself.

Were there any past tributes in your family?

Did someone tell you to ask me that? Fuck you... Okay, fine. I can say it: my father was injured the year he was expected to volunteer. My mother was a year younger; she just chickened out. They were failures. They never forgot it and they never let me forget it either.

How do you get along with the people in your home?

I wouldn't call it a home but, to answer your question, we barely even look at each other anymore. I don't want to talk about what it was like before that... miserable.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your family?

 About my parents? No. They never should of had me. I'll get a home of my own after I win and that's the end of it. Can I go now?

Can I ask you a few questions about your family back home? I don't see why not.

Do you have any siblings? I'm an only child. My parents didn't think two children would be ideal.

What is your relationship with your parents like? It's uh good I guess. We get along. They have their expectations and I well, I guess I live up to them, or rather I try to.

What would you say is your role in the home? I'm the Career. My role is to train, to get here and then home again. To do something that validates my existence so to speak. Sounds a bit simple, now that I think about it. But I guess that's just what happens, in my District I mean. It's the norm, it's what I know.

Were there any past tributes in your family? No, not that I know of. I'm the only who actually came here. Luck of the draw I guess.

How do you get along with the people in your home? My parents and I get along. They set goals for me. They have my best interest at heart. I see no reason to go against that. We haven't ever argued, I guess that's something. It's not what happens. If we disagree it usually goes by what my Father says. It's what you would call a mutual existence according to my parents.

Is there anything else you'd like to share about your family?

I guess, to someone who didn't know any better that my family would look little perfect. They have a daughter who was lucky enough to get here. We 'get along' and have a roof over our heads. What more could a person want? But honestly, what I have isn't what I'd call a family. It's more like living with a trainer. There's no emotional bond. Maybe that's why its so easy to get along, I don't know. It's just difficult. Even if I do get home, I doubt it would fix that. I guess what I'm saying is, that I don't think I have a Family, not in the common sense of the word. It just doesn't fit.

Can I ask you a few questions about your family back home? Would it matter if I said no? You're going to ask anyway.

Do you have any siblings? Why are you asking me this? Surely it's your job to know the basic information about tributes. Fine, I'll help you this once. I have two brothers.

If yes: Are they older or younger than you? They're both younger than me. Again, do your research. I could have been doing something worth while. Like watching paint dry.

What is your relationship with your parents like? It's just 'parent' you ass. I only have a father. And I wouldn't call it a relationship. More a mutual understanding. He hates me, I understand it. That's all there is too it.

What would you say is your role in the home? Disgrace. Smart Ass.  Dumb Ass, my father is indecisive on that one still. I'm the pain in the butt, the lay about. Waste of space. A drain on resources. They aren't all full time roles, I think my father is trying to show his affection. It's disgusting.

Were there any past tributes in your family? I don't really care about my family history. Or my family in general for that matter. How about I just say No.

How do you get along with the people in your home? Get along? Well I stay out of the way, help my brothers and pretend I don't exist and my Father leaves me alone.I'm fine with my brothers, but my father can go to hell, then maybe he can finally be with his own kind.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your family?

It's not a family. It hasn't been for a long time and my being here answering these stupid ass questions is not going to change that. So if that's everything, I'll be going now. And don't worry. I'll let the door hit me on the way out.

Can I ask you a few questions about your family back home? 

Yeah, sure. Ask away. Do you have any siblings? 

Well I.. No.

If yes: Are they older or younger than you?  What is your relationship with your parents like?  We've experience traumatic changes in our household recently and we're still trying to adjust to these.. changes. In the process, we've learned to love each other and express it more often that we used to. I guess we all hit that point where you realize your loved ones don't live forever. Not that we weren't aware of that before, it's just. Much more realistic now. What would you say is your role in the home?  I do my best in contributing to a peaceful household. It gets really quiet sometimes, and those are always the moments when we're all most in pain, so I help my parents. Do whatever task they need me to do, avoid causing any disturbances. I try to be cheerful, but it's much more complicated than most would imagine. Were there any past tributes in your family? Uh...

Y-Yes. Zalia, my sister. She was.. She was in last year's Games. How do you get along with the people in your home? We're definitely not the perfect family. Never have been and I can assure we never will be. But we definitely all love each other and do our best to support each other. Is there anything else you’d like to share about your family?

I don't think so. I just wish I could speak to them again. I really want them to understand that I didn't volunteer because I wanted to reopen the wound we still haven't closed. Our final goodbyes, they were all so rushed, It's not easy to tell them exactly what you want. I'll be back soon, and maybe then they can see I did it for the vengeance of my sister and for the honor of the Foster.

Unfortunately, yes. I have a brother. He's the male tribute this year- Josh.

If yes: Are they older or younger than you?

He's younger and inferior in every meaning of the word.

What is your relationship with your parents like?

They love me even when they don't really understand me. I'm sure we'll get along better after I win.

What would you say is your role in the home?

I write and I usually keep to myself. I'm well-behaved and I contribute more than Josh does. I'm the one they should be proud of.

Were there any past tributes in your family?

Besides me and Josh? Not that I know of. Most of the tributes from my district come from the poor side of it.

How do you get along with the people in your home?

I have a decent relationship with my parents; but Josh and I couldn't get along if our lives depended on it... It's funny now because that rivalry is really going to be the death of him.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your family?

Just that I know they'll be watching and I'm sure they'll understand.

Can I ask you a few questions about your family back home?  [Laughs] Sure, this'll be so much fun. Do you have any siblings?  No, I'm an only child. If yes: Are they older or younger than you?  What is your relationship with your parents like?  Oh it's lovely. They don't ever realize how good certain things are, just you know. Always expect more and more until you just can't please them anymore and they move on to their hatred against you. I hate them as well though, so it all balances perfectly. What would you say is your role in the home?  My role? There's roles? That's interesting. I think I'm almost embarrassed that I'm barely hearing about this. But I guess no one in our family actually has a role. I mean, if they did they sure as hell didn't tell me anything about it. I've just always been.. Sparta. Let's call me the "Daughter."

Were there any past tributes in your family?

No. Or at least not in my immediate family. As for the rest of them ancient people, I just don't know.

How do you get along with the people in your home?

Oh, that question is hilarious. Answer is very simple. We don't. Is there anything else you’d like to share about your family?
