Rimsa: "In the Clockwork Prince trailer, why did tessa grab the fire poker, is that a scene in the book?"
The Clockwork Prince full-length trailer is kind of an interesting thing because of the way it was constructed. Back when Ed Westwick was narrating City of Fallen Angels, I heard some of the clips of him recording in the studio and off course all his off-recording comments were in his native accent. I said, "His normal voice is so pretty, it's a pity he isn't recording Prince." [Which eventually he did, but I didn't know that at the time!] Then I asked the audio people, if I wrote a short piece that would work as a voiceover for Clockwork Prince, could they ask Ed to record it? They were amenable and so was he, so back in April he recorded
When you bury a secret, you cut a hole in your heart and you cover it over
With cruelty
With loneliness
With lies With whatever will keep it hidden With whatever will keep it safe. No matter the cost. The danger is, if you keep it hidden long enough When the truth finally comes to light It will break your heart.
Then when it came time to actually do the video, instead of a normal storyboard, we sent Dirty Robber a copy of the first draft of Prince and the voiceover and said, "Build a trailer around this voiceover."
Which they did, and a fine job of it too. There are scenes that are not exactly as they are in the book, or are changed slightly (Jem doesn't punch Will in a hallway, he punches him on Whitechapel High Street; there's no scene where Jem looks at his jade pendant while sitting in bed) but I think they did an excellent job getting the mood/sense of the book across.
As for the poker scene; yes, Tessa does burn her hand, but you'll have to wait for the book to find out why. Five days!
