postcanon is so delicious to me bc wwx brushes off a great deal but both his lives were rife with incredibly specific and extreme trauma that does impact him deeply, like lrb alludes to, and in the novel he acclimates fairly quickly but I like to see fics exploring the process of mentally and emotionally like...learning to have a home he can trust and a truly safe place and person again. and how lwj's patience and support and steadiness - which are core aspects of his character - are such crucial aspects of that process. postcanon wwx is going to be okay 🥺

#I even like the idea of wwx freaking out a little at the idea of having a truly safe home of his own #and maybe trying to sabotage it or his relationship bc he's so terrified of it ending #that he wants to end it on his own terms. bc he DOES do thay in the flashback #and I think its very realistic to do #but ofc it wouldn't get very far before lwj is like no I love you and this is your home always #like honestly it would more be a fear response than an attempt at rejection in my mind #do you see what im saying #and probably not even ABOUT lwj or the relationship I think he'd be too scared to lose him. maybe just CR and the home there #BUT either way. it won't be smooth and perfect but they'll be okay. wwx will heal over time #cql txp

xy and xxc are kind of a dark wangxian foil if you think about it. like yes the songxiao parallels but xy and wwx are already foils due to their background and cultivation and outfits and even personality but also their extreme opposite characters. and like. the themes of deceit and trust and morality - xxc trusted a man he loved and he was betrayed, and died horribly. lwj trusted a man he loved and wwx proved worthy of it, and they lived well. wwx even TRIED to lie about his identity to lwj initially and it doesn't work - lwj knows him too well - and wwx gives up trying pretty immediately bc he also trusts lwj. oh wow I just remembered xxc saying that xxc made him laugh. ow

#yes yes we know songxiao soulmates but disregarding how well xy charmed xxc and how much xxc clearly did care abt him #is not useful to the analysis imo. obviously THEY weren't soulmates #but their relationship mattered and ithe feelings were still real #cql txp

xy fans were also like ugh yes maybe he did murder and torture a bunch of unarmed people and lied to a blind man and psychologically tormented him into killing himself and was implied to be in an intimate relationship w him under false pretenses (rape by deception btw) but have you CONSIDERED when he was young something bad happened to him 🥺

there's a few points at which my personal preferences diverge from popular aspects of fanon wx and one of them is the preoccupation with marriage and calling each other husbands. I get it in canon and I absolutely understand and respect its significance in the real world but it just never excites me. i like soulmates or lovers 👍

#maybe bc I like when they or anyone defies conventional social structures.#which yes gay marriage is unconventional but its still marriage #I've never rly given a fuck abt marriage in romances tho. except as a useful social or legal tool #not that I don't think they would be married. they are absolutely married. sometimes I even like the weddings #but there's a specific appeal in fan spaces for the marriage/husbands and I never see it :/#cql txp

whenever I see mianmian shoehorned into wx I get pissed and then feel a bit like those fujoshis who hate girls for getting in the way of their slash ship but then I remember it's not that I dislike her, I think she's great, it's just that these people are simply ignoring the text and I'm just honoring mianmian's actual canonical feelings about those guys which is she is not in love with them and she doesn't want to have sex with them and also they're not into her either especially since at least one of them is gay. because like. why are you so invested in these men having a relationship with a woman instead of each other anyway
