this also brings up how the power struggle in the end is between syr and xff, not syr and xh. syr himself doesn't realize this; he thinks its a competition between him and xh and if he wins he'll get xff as a prize, because he's a misogynist who doesnt understand his wife caught up in idealizing xff and the past they had together, and ignoring her own capabilities and desires right up until the end. he thinks killing xh will get him xh back, but even xh doesn't really see syr as his rival or specific opponent. it's xff who will defeat him in the end

I finally read the fic where xff and xh mess around but xff doesn't want to go "All The Way" bc they're not married yet and she wants to maintain the cover (thanks Ivy for the suggestion!) and it was rly good, and it def took a different direction than canon did bc in canon xff didn't actually think of herself as someone who was ruined or fallen, she was angry at being FRAMED for that

but in the fic she's like well I've hurt a lot of people and I'm hardly the pure and sweet jiang li I pretend to be so we can mess around it doesn't matter. may as well keep the piv until the wedding just because its safer tho. but like...in canon she WAS that committed to staying 'pure' snd stuff. but honestly I liked this xff a lot better. she'd worked out a lot of her hangups around sex and purity to a point where premarital sex wouldn't damage her sense of self and she didn't seem as judgemental of others either

OH SHIT THIS SCENE. louis and armand are having a perfectly pleasant conversation about the nature of evil and the existence of god and jean-paul sartre is there and then louis starts hallucinating lestat playing music snd singing and calling to him and calling him a lustful little whore for wanting to fuck armand...louis is finding it hard to let go of lestat And he's very guilty And he's probably not as into armand emotionally as he'd like to be

so he fresks out a bit, tells armand, starts yelling at hallucinations. maybe he is schizophrenic. maybe it's just stress
