Um…
So I was on vc with a couple friends and I was trying to figure out how to hook up my surface pen to my laptop again. I later realized that maybe my pen needs a new battery. But I was focusing on the pen, that I didn’t realize my phone was so close to the end of my desk. It fell onto the floor, and I picked it up, thinking it was fine.
I soon get off vc to go to bed, and I start to turn on my phone alarm clock. That’s when I notice something on my phone screen. Thinking it’s just a brown Pocket hair, I try to remove it.
But…it doesn’t move. And it feels…slightly rough…
Then I look up at the rest of the phone screen, and
HOLY SHIT THE SIDE OF MY PHONE SCREEN IS CRACKED. THERE ARE 2 CRACK LINES ON MY PHONE THAT JOIN TOGETHER IN THE MIDDLE…And there’s now a black line slightly hiding the percentage numbers at the top of my phone.
If I tilt my phone to a certain angle, I can see how much I screwed it up. It’s…aah.
I’m proud of myself for never breaking my phone case until my 20’s, but…I don’t like it…I’m scared I’m gonna cut my thumb with the crack, and I can’t stop looking at it…🥺
I fucked up…I’ve been so lucky up until this point…
but maybe this is also proof that iPhones are getting less and less reliable and more fragile. Because I can whip out most of my old phones (the ones I haven’t given to friends to help them get upgraded a bit) and show you that they were fine, and would probably still work if I charged them again. The phone I have is an iPhone 8. The last phone I had (an iPhone 7) I gave to my best friend for free, so she could upgrade from her iPhone 5. Her family had always struggled with money, and I knew it was just gonna collect dust. So…I said “Have it. It’s got no SIM card anyway, since I put it into the new phone. Put your old SIM card into this phone, and it should upload everything for you.”
Though cracking a phone is not the end of the world. My mom happens to have an iPhone X that is collecting dust so that it can be used by one of her kids when ours stops working. My phones have always stopped working because of random glitches, and charging issues. I won’t get into my history of iPhones right now. So, I’ll just explain that I had roughly 6 iPhones and 2 iPods. And never once, did I crack a screen. And for that, I thank otter boxes, other phone cases that were in that spot between mediocre and good quality, and well-made iPhone products with only a couple flaws and mostly technical issues to worry about.
Anyway…my phone cracked. That’s it.
