A few of the projects i had completed in the last few months
My favorite crochet hook went missing while I was away from home, so now I'm giving up crochet and trying my hand at blacksmithing
I've already ordered a replacement
BEHOLD MY FIRST GRANNY SQUARE.
Okay, who had "Rhys buys a big, complicated piece of equipment they may or may not actually finish a project on in the next 2 years" for their 2023 Tumblr fibre arts bingo?
Because I just bought a 24" table loom lol.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go hand carve some shuttles from my cedar kindling supply, since I spent all my money on a loom and can't afford tools...
Wanted to share the bug and his new friends!
ZiM got a whole wash pretty recently! I had to make him some new eye highlight thingies because I super did not anticipate the old glue on the felt ones disintegrating in the process :(
The new highlights are made from a couple layers of ribbon, and they're kinda reflective in the way that the rest of his eyes are!
I also replaced the snap buttons on his pak, and I'm much happier with the stitching this time around, lol. The matte black looks much better on him than the silver, too. (pics of him and the old buttons can be found if you search 'ZiM plush' on my blog. It wasn't terrible, but. It was kind of. Not Good.)
GIR got a bath too, and both of them are sooo much brighter and softer now 💕
They've got some new friends now, too!
Skoodge, Tak, and Dib all came from Etsy (ShimmereeCreations and BestGift4You)
And I got into sewing for a bit, and made a couple shirts and a bag for Dib!
i got inspired by pictures of english country house interiors and made a frumpy little lamp shade! the lamp base is a thrift shop find that i put a new plug on.
i find it so nice to make or adapt things by hand. there is a joy in being able to arrange my living space exactly the way i want it to be and in knowing that it's personal and unique - there's no one else who has the same thing, this is by & for me alone. :-)
Okay weird question but I saw your post about yarn and I wonder if you have any suggestions for soft yarn that doesn't have plastics? No worries if you don't know but I'd love to make the switch to better yarns, I just have sensory issues that make working with the scratcher stuff tough.
Sure! So sadly, things will be slightly more expensive — but that's the cost of not going for plastic yarn.
Merino wool will always be your softest followed by alpaca. I love alpaca personally lol. Actually, there's a kind of Cascade brand yarn that was probably one of the softest yarns I used and it was called Eco Duo. It was baby alpaca and merino wool and THEEEEEE softest thing I had worked with. Sadly not that many colors but whatever, it was worth it.
When you see 'superwash' on it, usually that means the yarn has been chemically treated to allow it to go in a washing machine but honestly — if you're going to be working with more expensive wool, you wouldn't want to throw it in the machine anyway. It's easier to just hand wash in a little bin and lay out to dry. It's not like you're going to have your whole wardrobe become wool and wool still doesn't have to be washed as often anyway.
Pima cotton is also very soft along with some bamboo oones!
