This isn't my usual type of post, but here goes... Craftwerk Brewing, part of the Bitburger Braugruppe, brings German craft beer interpretations of international beer styles while following their Reinheitsverbod, at least according to what's written on the labels. Thanks Jan and Helga! The 3.9 % ABV Mad Callista Session Lager with nice tropical fruit aromas though not much bitterness or body - a harmless session beer with lovely aromas. Their 4.8% ABV Skipping Stone Summer Ale came with a lightly powdered and sugared lemon drop/subdued tropical fruits, the experience perhaps like a malted soda pop. The 5,5% ABV Dark Season Sweet Stout balanced the roasted bitters from the mild coffee and mild chocolates well enough with the milky sweetness for me, a bitter beer lover, to carry on. A Single Hop Pale Ale, that was the 5.8% ABV Tangerine Dream, and it reminded me of orange Tang, though of course as a more tangerine'd version. The 8% ABV Hop Head IPA7 (to the 7th power), an American-style IPA, was their session lager times 7 - nice granular hoppy tropical fruits with a decent enough bitterness ok body. Brewed of course with 7 hop varieties : Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, Herkules, Taurus, Magnum and Simcoe. My order of preference: 1. Hop Head IPA7 (a hop feast of 7 varieties, and they didn't go to waste - full varied aromas, full enough body (for such a beer, it shouldn't be either too full or too 'empty'), the feeling like I'm being attacked by loads of hop spice and enough oils; in some ways an overdose, but not enough to drive me away); 1. Tangerine Dream (a decent enough bitterness to go with the aromas and ok body; I could drink more of this one); 3. Mad Callista (lovely aromas, and even though the body was lacking, well what else would you expect from a session lager;) 4. Skipping Stone (the aromas were a bit more toned down and the bitters just a bit greater, at least compared to the session ale; perhaps more user-friendly, but I wanted more, especially from an ale); 5. Dark Season (too harmless far a dark beer, at least for me; perhaps I've lived in Belgium for too long...). #craftwerkbrewing #germanbeer, #deutschbier #bitburger (at Balen, Antwerpen, Belgium)
