no response from board member :(
(submitted via “infoshare with us”)
Hi there,
Thanks for creating PNCA infoshare ! I think it is really important to have a place to share information and create some much needed transparency within the community. I wrote board member Craig Boretz, about 2 weeks ago and still haven’t heard a peep. I am not surprised but kind of bummed. I feel like a short reply or a redirect would have been appropriate. Anyways, I thought I would share. Best, x
Hi Craig,
I am an undergraduate student here at PNCA, and I was hoping you could find some time to help me with some inquiries regarding the many changes during this transitional period surrounding the move and most recently the resignation of our president, Tom Manley. In the email you wrote, you mentioned that we are entering a period of reinforced focus on academic programs, faculty, students and initiatives that exemplify the vision and mission of PNCA. There has been an open discussion in many of my classes as to what the exact vision and mission of PNCA is/has become. I understand the mission statement & our campaign of ’creativity works here’, but it seems there is much confusion about the ethos and ethics regarding the relationships between student body/faculty/board members/ president. How are these statements being reinforced and in turn made visible? Please forgive me if I am overlooking where this information is available, in which case perhaps it could be made more transparent. It is evident that there is a major rift between student body and the board & (interim)president. I say this from just listening to my peers talk openly about what/why/how decisions are made and lack of transparency to information regarding said decisions. This leads to a lot of frustration, disengagement, and disregard to what could be a healthy political relationship within the institution. I hope these thoughts are not coming off in any other way than a general inquiry on how to further unite these seemingly disparate groups (board/government & students/faculty). Many of my peers feel that they are nothing but a number or a ‘customer’. This is an issue when you are dealing with a large number of creative individuals that require a nourishing environment to develop in. Many are feeling pitched against, commercialized and uncared for in regards to creating a unified space that fosters and protects the importance that artists & designers contribute to the future. Perhaps the board could extend an invitation to talk about some of these issues? What would the board say within the context of these concerns? How do we move into the future with a unified vision and why is this important? How can a healthy, open conversation be created? Thank you for taking the time to read this and help me further understand these issues. These are conversations and questions that are happening within the PNCA community and I wanted to extend the dialogue as I believe it is important. I look forward to your thoughts & suggestions. warmly, x
