Update to our shipping crate planter box project. 🚜 We wanted to put in raised beds on a budget and found 6 heat treated wood shipping crates free on Craigslist. We bulked them up using the tops to line the bottoms for a 2nd layer and adding some pallet wood and 2x2" slats. We decided to do some Hügelkultur, lining the bottoms with a mixture of dead leaves, twigs and branches to help with drainage and become future compost. 🍂 Sealed them with linseed oil and scored a 2nd time on the ol' List thanks to Joe and Liz in Santa Cruz who gave us the soil from yard remodels. We bulked this up with some peat moss and compost. Total cost for the beds came to approx $80. Tomatoes 🍅 and strawberries 🍓 went in today. 6 Shipping Crates: Free 4 Wood Pallets: Free 6 2x2x8s $24.99 20 Cubic Ft of Soil: Free 1 Gallon Linseed oil: $26.99 3 Cubic Ft Peat Moss: $17.99 1.5 Cubic Ft Compost $8.49 #craiglistscore #hügelkultur #raisedgardenbeds #diygardenbed #budgetgarden budgetgreenthumb #veggiegarden #florafaunaart #pescadero https://www.instagram.com/p/B-alzkynL1b/?igshid=ar9ri87rw069
