Craigmillar Castle, Edimburgo Al centro si trova l'originaria casa torre della fine del 1300. Craigmillar è stato tra i primi di questo tipo di castello ad essere costruito in Scozia. Il muro del cortile, costruito nel 1400, è ben conservato, con i gunholes a forma di toppa rovesciata. All'interno del muro si trovano una cappella privata di famiglia e altri edifici secondari. La Queen Mary's Room, al primo piano della casa torre, è dove si dice che Mary Queen of Scots abbia dormito nel 1566. Ma è più probabile che avesse un appartamento di più stanze quando soggiornò a Craigmillar, probabilmente nella zona est . Il proprietario Sir Simon Preston era un fedele sostenitore di Mary, che lo aveva nominato Rettore di Edimburgo.
