First to roll out of bed when the baby cries in the middle of the night: I want to say Tillie. But I also have a feeling that she'd make Gabe take care of it.

Uses strange methods to potty train: TOTALLY GABE. Can you imagine what methods his mom used on him and Natalie?

Tries to sleep in the baby’s bed: Also Gabe. Possibly Tillie.

Struggles with changing diapers: Gabe. Gabe's like "they won't stop moving!!!! Tillie help!!!!" and Tillie just rolls her eyes and shows him how to do it for the millionth time

Panics that they’re a bad parent: Gabe. Always Gabe. Gabe's like "shit i'm such a horrible person wait i can't swear anymore there's a tiny human around. shit."

Falls asleep trying to get the baby to sleep: Tillie, probably.

Tries eating the baby food: Okay, there's no way that this isn't Gabe. "But does it really taste like squash???"

Is hyper sensitive when the baby gets hurt: Both of them, I'd think.

Baby proofs the house meticulously: Tillie tries to make Gabe do it, but he's hopeless, so they just get Max to do it instead. Possibly with help from Diana.

Follows the bus on the first day of Kindergarten: Both of them run after the bus, and Gabe is totally not crying. Not at all.

Cries at the Christmas play: Gabe sniffles quietly and Tillie just pats his head.

Talks through the nightmares: Both of them. They have this story that they tell their kid where they're a superhero team that fights off the bad dreams, so as long as the kid is near them, the bad dreams can't hurt them.

The ship thingy for Tillie and Flounder?

Send me a ship and I’ll tell you who holds:

The umbrella, when it rains - Flounder because he’s taller and it’s more convenient.

The popcorn at the cinema - Flounder because he usually eats most of it.

The baby, when it cries - Tillie; she likes to sing to the baby and bounce them to soothe them. Flounder will hold the baby too if he needs to. He doesn’t mind.

The ice cream cone, when they share - Tillie. Flounder let’s her eat most of the ice cream.

The remote, when they sit down to watch a movie - They kind of wedge it between themselves in the couch cushion so both kind of hold it.

The basket, when they go shopping - Tillie. If Flounder holds it, he’ll fill it up too quickly with junk they don’t need.

The door, on dates - Flounder of course! He’s a gentlemen!

The other’s hand, most often - Tillie. She likes holding Flounder’s hand and it feels weird for her not to hold it.

Their breath, upon seeing the other on their wedding day - Flounder. He’s been waiting for the big moment, and breathing to him would make it feel like he was soiling the big moment.

The camera, when they take pictures together - Tillie. Flounder will end up taking silly pictures of squirrels and birds and kill the battery and memory.

Tillie laid in Gabe's bed with him, holding the boy as though he were a small child. There were silent, the only sound heard being their breathing, his soft cries, and the echo of screaming voices coming from the living room. She ran her fingers through his scraggily hair and pressed her lips against his forehead, keeping them there as she whispered, "It's okay." She had never seen Gabe so upset, and it upset her. She wasn't that great at comforting people but she would do her best for Gabe.

Gabe couldn't calm down.

He hated breaking down like this, hated every second of his crying where anyone could hear him. Even if it was just Tillie — he was so used to hiding behind his facade, not letting on how much the yelling and screaming hurt him and made him want to scream back until his voice was hoarse. Until everything was silent. Until there was peace.

He was curled up in her arms, his face buried into the crook of his elbowas he gasped for breath, body shaking. They weren't stopping. They'dbeen going at it for hours, and they still weren't stopping. Every singleyell pierced him like a sword, and he wanted nothing more than to justdisappear away from it all. But at least he had Tillie.

"Tillie... I'm sorry. You deserve better than what I've been able to give you. You deserve a knight, a prince, someone who can give you a castle and a crown and all of the riches you desire.

Instead, you got me. A no one. Someone who shouldn't even exist. And you made me better. That's why I stuck around, even though you were far more than I deserved. Because I loved you... love you. And it hurts me that I'm not going to be around anymore.

I wish it didn't have to be this way, and I'm going to miss you, Tillie. I love you more than anything else, and you've always been there for me. But you're going to have to move on. Survive. Keep smiling when I'm gone, and know that I'll always watch over you. Every time the wind blows, or a bird sings, or a child smiles at you, imagine it's me giving you this message time and time again:
