After all, that sort of violence is something that Stiles often sees directed at himself to a certain degree (like, Stiles getting slammed into walls ALL. THE. TIME.) As for the Sheriff being rough with Stiles: I think both situations are both high stress situations, right? So you are saying, he basically expects (and therefore hallucinates about) violence from his father when he is angry, because he is confronted with violence by everyone else all the time? I am not sure I can agree with this theory. After all, his friends aren't manhandling him. That's only Derek and their enemies, basically.

But I guess I could agree if you say that this expression of violence in his hallucination origins in his subconscious fear of getting (physically) hurt again.

As for the stress situations: don't people who punch their kids/wives often react out of stress and aggression? If he was in a mood bad enough to get wasted, wouldn't his emotional stress not be enough to maybe hurt his son?

But okay, I think I'll agree with you on that. You are probably right. The Sheriff was probably just rough because he was really angry THAT moment and/or scared and he wouldn't do that when he is drunk because he seems like someone who drinks out of depression not because he is angry - and especially not angry at Stiles..

I personally like to think that he doesn't (hit Stiles when he’s drunk/hit Stiles at all)? In Party Guessed, the Sheriff is Stiles' hallucination. And from what I can see about Stiles, his opinion of himself is low. Really, really low. Heck, he blames himself for his mother's death. So, rather than it being a reflection of how the Sheriff has acted while drunk in the past, I think the hallucination is a reflection of what Stiles thinks he himself -deserves-. (WHICH IS INCREDIBLY DISTRESSING)

But when we tend to create scenarios like that in our head, don't we usually create them as realistic as possible? Like - apart from what actually was said and from the Sheriff's lack of controlling himself much longer (IF he actually had that opinion, which is truly just Stiles' opinion) - don't you think this was really how this scene would have happened if the Sheriff would blame Stiles for his wife's death?

(Oh god, I hope that paragraph just made sense. I am too scared to reread it because I think it was confusing.)

That's the part that kept me wondering. I mean, is it really JUST Stiles imagination that his father would throw a bottle at him, or would he actually do that if he was angry (and drunk) enough?
