one week to go
Composer Donnacha Dennehy's Nonesuch debut, Grá agus Bás, was released 15 years ago today. The album, performed by the Dublin-based Crash Ensemble and conductor Alan Pierson, includes the title piece, which was inspired by sean-nós "old style" Irish vocal music, featuring soloist Iarla O’Lionáird, and the song cycle That the Night Come, comprising six settings of poems by W.B. Yeats, featuring Dawn Upshaw. You can hear it here.

It is so fucking insane to me how talented Rachael Lavelle is. I can't believe I get to see her again in October. She is such an artist and I am so excited to see what truly unhinged work she produces in the future.
[Video Description: A zoomed-in video of Rachael Lavelle singing into a microphone on stage. She is wearing a white loose high-collared top and white trousers.]
