Crathes Castle and Gardens

Crathes is a well-maintained castle which doesn’t allow cameras on their tour, which was just fine with me, because the main attraction, other than the towering pink granite exterior, is their extensive gardens.

Closest to the castle is a formal lawn set up for croquet, but beyond that are several distinct areas, ranging from formal to cottage to woodland styles, with benches, nooks and fountains all waiting to be discovered around the wandering pathss.
