Top 5 Usagi moments?
if you're including all continuities that's incredibly hard
BUT OKAY
1) The end of the first season of the anime- She fights against Mamoru beause she can't let him kill her and dishonor her friend's sacrifice. She brings him back by reminding him he's not alone- he has her. that she holds off on kissing Mamoru because her friends didn't get to kiss anyone they loved before dying. She goes and fights and dies alone, this girl who is so afraid and relied so much on others and she never forgets the strength of her friends and how much she believes in this world.
2) The R movie- "Give me power! Power so no one will be alone! I will protect everyone!"- and we see how much she's impacted her friends and everyone.
3) The end of S, both manga and anime- the voice acting for the anime was amazing and her just forcing a transformation through sheer willpower- and in the manga the little smile she gives before diving into the storm on her own, knowing she has everyone's power in her always gets me.
4) Basically the end of the Stars manga, full stop.
Not that the ending to anime wasn't great, but I prefer the Stars manga because it was just such massive character development for Usagi and such an interesting choice- she's seen everyone around her die. She's had to personally kill them too. The entire fucking universe is basically dead. This is the girl who gave up on life when her boyfriend died in her past life, who gave up on life when she had to kill him in the first arc (understandable, she was fourteen and having to straight up murder someone you like would break most people)- but now she's been through so much, she's being blamed for "attracting it all" and she has the choice to end all the pain and suffering in the universe- but that would take away the chance of new life- because life is conflict and suffering. I freaking love moral dilemma's like that, and it's a surprisingly thorny thing to get into for a cheesy 90s manga.
But she's grown. She's seen the strength of the people around her and she knows her own strength. So she refuses to give up, and she refuses to end life to end war. She's accepted that her life will be hard, that being powerful is hard. She's accepted she'll see death. But everyone is still with her as long as she keeps going. She believes in her own strength enough now that she just doesn't call it quits when someone she loves dies, she goes all the way to save them. So she freaking dives in there and purifies the entire freaking universe- taking on the SOURCE OF LIFE AND EVIL ITSELF- and when she's given an option to just chill in the galaxy cauldron and not be reborn again? "No matter how tough it is, I want to live my life with these people".
When people say the manga had no character development, they're objectively wrong. A lot of the supporting characters may have gotten the shaft (though they did have some) but Usagi's was beautiful to me and always will be.
5) man I feel bad for leaving out PGSM because I like PGSM Usagi? But she doesn't do anything quite as spectacular geez. But I'll include when she stepped on that guy's face and did a slam dunk in episode 6 and tie it with a selected moment from the anime and manga- let's seeeeee the manga is def when she gives Dimande's victim blaming bullshit the finger and destroys his evil lair and yoinks her friends to safety and the anime... "Who gives a damn? I'm used to people bad-mouthing me!" Forever girl.
