Ralph and Nicolas
1. Nicolas honestly doesn’t have many friends in Columbia. There’s people he knows but few that he’d truly call his friends. Ralph is one of the few people Nic considers a good friend, and really he was friends with the crows, always feeding and chatting with them, before he was friends with Ralph.
2. They seem like an odd pair, but they work together very well when the police and the Order have to team up together. Ralph is well known in the richer parts of Columbia and Nicolas has connections in the rest, even in Shantytown, so between the two of them they can usually find whatever/whoever they need.
3. Nicolas doesn’t find out about Ralph’s killer side in most universes. In the ones where he does, confrontation always happens and it always goes from verbal to physical and ends with one of them dead or wounded, usually Nicolas. (One of them having an army of crows helps.)
Bonus cause I thought of it: If Ralph ever tried showing Nicolas the rich lifestyle and invite him to some fancy get-together, Nicolas would accept and dress up (in a suit Ralph bought him or his police formals since that would be the only suit he has) but he would be so confused the entire time and just stick to Ralph because he has no clue how to talk to anyone there.
Bonus that you asked for: Nicolas and his mother
Back when he was younger, Nicolas and his mother would bake up treats and goodies on the weekends. Just little things, cookies, sweet breads, things that they could snack on throughout the week until they ran out and made more when the weekend came back around. He still does it occasionally, and brings in a box or two of homemade baked goods into work on Monday mornings.
