At first he looks like, Uh what!?! He never intended to take the throne, all he wanted was to make sure his father knew that Thor would not be great as king because of how war happy he is. I mean, even Thor at the end of The Dark World was like, Dude you picked the wrong guy for king, it should have been Loki! Because even he knew that Loki really did care about Asgard, he didn’t want to see his people hurt or go to war for no reason. Even in the Avengers and Thor the Dark World he still cared about his people and their welfare of having Thor as king; and to his credit he had reason to worry because Thor was a pretty arrogant ass who was like, smash and kill things then ask questions later which doesn’t make for great traits of a king. Loki has always been a talker more than a fighter, Someone who says, let’s think about this before fighting happens, which is exactly what makes a great leader! He was promised the throne as much as Thor, and then he was made a king. Loki should have been the rightful king because of his diplomacy skills. (more)
But fuckwad Odin didn’t choose him because favorites and because Thor is the one who looks and acts like the typical hero (like to note I do love Thor dearly but lets be honest a good king he would not make)! Odin is the guy who adopts a kid without letting them know they are adopted for whatever reason but then treats his other biological child better while not explaining to his adopted child why he is distant and doesn’t favor him as much; even though lets be honest Odin was probably racist against frost giants (saw their race as the enemy) and knew Loki actually was one and to top it off Loki was also very different from everyone around him.
Odin is also the guy who broke the news of his son’s adoption by basically saying, “another man’s trash is another man’s treasure” and then SUPER CONVENIENT ODIN SLEEP when said child gets rightfully pissed off by this! Loki goes from confused by being named king to expressing happiness because he feels like he can finally prove to his dad that even though he is not technically an Asgardian, he still has what it takes to protect it, that he is in fact worthy of respect and love like Thor. He is so desperate to prove that to him, even to the very end! This movie made me fall madly in love with Loki, the shit he had to go through explained greatly why he is the way he is!
