top 5 books you think everyone should read

i don't know about everyone but, i can share top 5 books i've enjoyed over the past few years? so not gonna include my lifelong favorite—just gonna list out a few i've read recently

001. we keep the dead close by becky cooper 002. the talented mr. ripley by patricia highsmith 003. the it girl by ruth ware 004. the paris apartment by lucy foley 005. persuasion by jane austen

so, a non-fiction book about a murder at harvard in the 60s that i stumbled across in a book store and have recommended to EVERYONE over the past year, a famous psychological thriller from the 50s that i've heard about for years but only read for the first time a few years back, 2 british true crime books that i found in airport bookshops and made me binge read both authors other books, and a famous romance that i read as a teen but didn't like until i re-read it a few years ago and fell in love as an adult

i don't know if everyone needs to read these five books, but i've gotten a lot of joy out of them!

i need you to know that this was super hard and my original list was ten movies and i probably could've kept thinking of more. but i've listed seven below in alphabetical order.

con air - john malkovich is iconic and the cast is a+ and it's fun and silly and endlessly quotable. most quoted lines: hard to pick between 'put the bunny back in the box' and the 'define irony' spiel

the fifth element - fuck the haters i will forever be obsessed with chris tucker as ruby rhod. the aesthetic is amazing and the cast is on point. most quoted lines: 'aziz light'

the many adventures of winnie the pooh - winnie the pooh was my childhood, both the books and this movie. will never get sick of watching this one.

the martian - i can't believe how much humour they got into this (i know this was a controversial best comedy movie win back in the day but unpopular opinion alert: there have been way less funny movies and tv shows going into the comedy category in recent years). anyway, this is probably one of my fave films of the 2010s.

oceans eleven - they just don't make em like this anymore. smart without being too high brow, stylish, laugh out loud funny, cool, fun. we need more heist movies in general tbh. most quoted lines: okay, i don't really quote it, but the 'and for God's sake, whatever you do, don't, under any circumstances…' bit will never not make me laugh.

return to me - a hidden gem in the romcom genre, a movie that's genuinely funny and super romantic in a really sweet and earnest way. if you haven't seen it get onto it. most quoted lines: 'I have never said 'hell', you son of a bitch'

that thing you do - honestly a perfect film. snappy writing, perfectly cast actors, every song is an absolute bop. i have both the theatrical and extended versions that i alternate between depending on how much time i have. most quoted lines: 'you gotta be quick, you gotta be quick with me, i'm from eerie pa.' followed by 'i quit

i'm only just coming back to tumblr from a bit of a hiatus so i don't know who's around and/or who hasn't done this already. if you see this and wanna do it please do and tag me, even if we're not mutuals, i love seeing peoples comfort movies.

Would you ever write a story with major character death?

oh allí i have to talk myself out of writing major character death like ... weekly. i did write you have (1) missed call that was "ambiguous ending" but in my head was an mcd. i also have half a sterek fic for día de los muertos that's stiles spending years trying to resurrect derek and ultimately listening when derek tells him to stop trying.

in conclusion yes i would and i'm honestly kinda surprised i've resisted it for this long but rest assured my mental breakdown is coming and along with it will be death and despair

Derek looked relaxed, where they were sitting on a picnic blanket in the park. Happy and relaxed. It was a good look on him.

He looked at Stiles, then bumped their shoulders together, smiling, and Stiles raised his eyebrows. Derek just shrugged though, so Stiles bumped right back, a little more forcefully, and Derek grinned as he let his body sway.

Taking Stiles’ hand, Derek laid back on the blanket, so Stiles leaned down to press a soft kiss to his cheek, to his dimple, before the pack would get there and calm would be a thing of the past.
