crazybus is the best video game in existence
now, i know this seems like a joke, but please, hear me out.
crazybus, the infamous venezuelan bus-driving simulator, released as an unlicensed sega genesis game in 2004, is actually a hidden masterpiece. a hidden gem.
you see, crazybus is actually a metaphor for depression
when you get to the title screen, you hear wacky, randomly-generated notes playing. this symbolizes how if you feel depressed for long enough, it starts to drive you crazy.
the desire to feel any emotion other than empty, hollow boredom.
next, you’re presented with a select screen. select your bus.
no matter which one you select, the gameplay is the same:
drive over and over. when your bus reaches the right screen, it teleports back to the left, symbolizing how just when you feel like you’re about to recover, you suddenly find yourself back at square one.
and enough times? it starts driving you crazy. and crazy. and crazy.
like a crazy bus, if you will
this is why i think crazybus is the most deep, emotional, & relatable game ever. no kidding, i shed a few tears while playing it.
