So today as I was mindlessly scrolling through different social media pages, I can across my favorite band’s new song, Lost in Translation. Just to say I am quite proud to say this is kind of the story of my life. For as far back as I can remember I have been lost in translation, and wanting to learn a new language to understand my family. Though now I am considered Bilingual English/French, I still have difficulty. As my fiancé, is completely francophone, he has been trying very hard to learn English to understand me better. As well as, I have decided to go back and get a better grasp at my rusty French, though many say because I understand both languages and speak them clearly, does not mean I don’t get lost in translation. This is of what I live in a daily basis, my fiancé, roommate and I. As my roommate is doesn’t speak or understand much French and my fiancé not much English. Therefore, I stand in the middle getting lost in translating for them, I have previously stop interpreting and let them figure it out most of the time though, they seem to just get along less as no one understand each other.
Though this is a hard reality throughout not only the eastern townships of Quebec but throughout our nation’s country CANADA. When travelling from one end of our country to the other our variation in the French language alone is very different from one province to another. As I have travelled back and forth to certain regions to visit family quite often we feel as if they are speaking an alien language. As for example, when visiting family in N.B. I had meet a cousin who had been learning French as a college course, although he may have had an accent, but the words made no sense to me what so ever, as I am used to hearing Quebecois French and have grown accustom to French from France. I had just told my cousin that I was not a good person to practice his French language skills with as I honestly had no clue what he way saying.
This song is unique, I believe it is the first song I hear talk about love but getting lost in translation and not wanting an interpreter. Though I could be mistaken. As the time approaches my deadline for an assignement I must run. Hedley’s new album HELLO comes out November 6th 2015, make sure to buy it. Looks like it is going to be another hit album from this Canadian band. You can also buy the new single ‘Lost in Translation” on apple itunes.
