Create Your Own Creamy Chicken Adobo With Nestle All Purpose Cream
Filipinos all have their our own favorite version of the adobo, the undisputed national dish of the country. Most of the time, this is our own mother’s version of the adobo which we grew up eating and fantasizing about during those tired and busy days from school or from the office. For me, it used to be my lola’s cooking which gets me running to the dinner table. Nothing spells out our family’s love for us more than spending time in the kitchen preparing the best food that they can serve us. Now, I have discovered a new creamier way of preparing chicken adobo which will surely impress our families and loved ones.
Nestle Philippines invited several of the most prominent bloggers in Metro Manila to a special event last month to showcase a new chicken adobo recipe that will definitely change the way we cook and appreciate adobo. The Creamy Chicken Adobo is an upgraded version of the adobo we all know and love which uses Nestle All Purpose Cream to make it thicker, richer and creamier. I have my own special ingredient to make my version of the adobo but I had never thought of using Nestle Cream, so I was really curious to see what they had prepared for us that afternoon.
The event was held at the Blue Leaf Events Pavilion in Mckinley Hill which was set up beautifully for Nestle’s Create With Cream. Filipinos are generally the most expressive in the world when it comes to our feelings, even being ranked first in Asia when it comes to saying “I love you." But sometimes, words are not enough, and the greatest power to delight comes not just with words but with action. What better way to express our love than through the food we wholeheartedly prepare to the best of our abilities. I wanted to learn how to make this creamy version of the adobo myself so I eagerly awaited for the cooking demonstration that was being set up.
I was happy to meet some of my blogger friends like Sumi Go of The Purple Doll and Beryll of It’s Beryllicious who I had not seen for quite a while. It was great being with them again and sharing the fun activities and events for Nestle All Purpose Cream.
Some of the bloggers also brought along their families with them and there were also special activities for the kids to enjoy while their mommies participated in the program. Rain, the ever so cute daughter of Rina’s Rainbow and The Pickiest Eater in the World, was busy coloring her drawings with her stack of crayons and color pencils.
Snacks were provided for the guests while waiting for the official program to start. These included a selection of chips, cookies, canapés and light sandwiches to nibble on, perfect for that rainy Saturday morning.
The host welcomed everybody to the event and got us ready to learn more about the special Creamy Chicken Adobo recipe from Nestle All Purpose Cream.
Nestle Philippines Executive Manager Joey Uy reiterated that cooking and preparing delicious home-cooked meals makes the family feel loved, so we can easily upgrade our adobo dishes with Nestle All Purpose Cream.
We played a little icebreaker game to keep everyone on their toes and get our competitive juices flowing. Each group needed to write down 5 words in different categories starting with the letters C-R-E-A-M. Our all-girl team fought long and hard to win but unfortunately we came up short. However, we surely had fun playing the game.
Aside from that, all the Instagram posts we uploaded during the event with the hashtag #CreateWithCream were automatically printed out on these magnetic cardboards and we could bring them home.
Finally, the main star of the show came out and he was none other than celebrity chef Rob Pengson. You have probably seen him on television commercials and billboard ads so he is already a familiar face. Chef Rob will be sharing with us the recipe in creating his Creamy Chicken Adobo and he will be preparing his version right here in front of the audience.
Nestle All Purpose Cream makes mealtimes even more delightful just by adding a new creamy twist to an old favorite. Creating dishes is one of the most meaningful actions we can show our loved ones. By using only the number one Cream for our creations, Nestle All Purpose Cream helps elevate the traditional adobo into a new language of love. It enhances the flavor of your adobo, wrapping each bite with rich flavor and delight.
Chef Rob Pengson then proceeded to show us how to make his Creamy Chicken Adobo. First, vinegar and soy sauce are put inside the bowl to boil with bay leaf, garlic and seasoning. The chicken cuts are simmered in low heat for ten minutes before they are removed from the pan. Chef Rob uses a Twice-Cooked Adobo technique to prepare his adobo and he further fries his chicken in a pan until golden brown before putting back the sauce. He mentioned that the caramelization of the chicken creates the foundation of flavor for the adobo.
After putting back the adobo sauce, Chef Rob turns off the heat and then slowly adds the Nestle All Purpose Cream while quickly whipping it with the whisk. This makes the sauce thicker as it emulsifies, which enables it to coat each grain of your rice because of its texture. Chef Rob also reminds us not to forget about the fond - the small browned bits and drippings stuck on the pan which contains most of the flavors of the dish.
And here it is, Chef Rob Pengson’s Creamy Chicken Adobo! Doesn’t it just look so good? The thick and creamy adobo sauce gives this dish a whole new dimension of flavor. I’m already imagining this creamy adobo sauce on top of my steaming hot rice, but that will have to wait because we have another activity in store.
A few lucky bloggers got the chance to prepare their own creamy chicken adobo guided by Chef Rob Pengson himself. The three pairs were given the recipes and ingredients on the table and they had to cook their own version of this adobo.
Jill Bantang from The Food Scout and Yen Dreyfus from The Tummy Traveler were very much game to show Chef Rob their own masterpiece.
Sumi and Beryll learned how to combine Nestle All Purpose Cream into the sauce with instructions from Chef Rob. This is definitely going to be a creamy and fantastic result.
All three groups presented their own version of the Creamy Chicken Adobo complete with plating and presentation and everyone was declared a winner. We will also be getting to try their creations so it was really a great opportunity to see how Nestle All Purpose Cream upgrades our adobo.
Now it’s time to eat! Making our lunch even more festive was this huge lechon from Mila’s Lechon. Ceasar’s Salad, Beef Stroganoff, and Blueberry Cheesecake were also included on the buffet table with loads of white rice.
But of course, the main attraction was the Creamy Chicken Adobo prepared for everyone to enjoy. The creamy sauce is really so much better than the traditional sauce because it sticks to the rice better and you can savor all the juices and flavors. This dish will really make everyone say, “More rice, please!"
As an added treat, everyone also went home with this Nestle Create With Cream gift box containing the recipe for Creamy Chicken Adobo plus Nestle All Purpose Cream, Maggi Soy Sauce and Maggi Magic Sarap. Now I can create my own special dishes at home!
