My Passion for Powerlifting
I spend at least 3-4 days in the gym lifting weights and training for a competition. I listen to crazy loud music, others cheer, men and women making grunting noises, and weights crashing together. And why, you say! Powerlifting is one of the most rewarding things I have ever decided to do. In two years I have gone from 5lb dumb bells to sometimes 45lb dumbbells depending on the exercise, from bench pressing a 45lb bar to a new PR of 165.
I discovered lifting at Hurricane Fitness. After doing some personal training, my trainer asked if I would like to compete in a Strong Man/Woman Competition. I really enjoyed that, however when I went to watch others powerlift, and saw what they accomplished, I knew that was for me and the following week I began training. I was told that I needed to throw away my gloves and grow some well earned calluses that would assist me in my lifting. The more I lifted and noticed my body changing, the more I wanted. The people that surround powerlifting are some amazing athletes, they strive to uplift others and help out whenever they can. I have met some strong and amazing friends at the two competitions I have competed in.
I always make a new goal of starting my first lift to be higher than my good lift from the previous competion and I have accomplished that in all three: squat, bench, and deadlift. With all the lifting I was doing getting ready for competition I was having a hard time recovering and that's when I decided to try some supplements from Iron Church. I currently am taking Amino Salvation and Creatine Trinity. I have noticed a huge difference not only for the level of energy during some workouts, but I also have shortened recovery time so I can get right back into the gym and lift. Something critical when you are getting ready for competition.
In the two years I have been lifting, I have transformed and pushed my body to some limits I did not think possible, however, I am not stopping here. I still have goals I want to accomplish, one of them being: bench press 205 by September 2016.
