As these cities see rents rise and neighborhoods gentrify, as in other popular cities, their artists and musicians face displacement. How do these creative cities deal with the paradox of their seeming economic “success” ruining the creative edge that made them famous in the first place?

Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Homes.com identified the top American cities for creative workers. To come up with its rankings, the real estate company compared the 50 most populated Metropolitan Statistical Areas based on four metrics: creative jobs, creative schools, performing arts companies, and motion picture and video companies. The 180 cities which currently make up the UCCN work together towards the common goal of placing creativity and cultural industries at the heart of their development plans at the local level and cooperating actively at the international level.
