When Fashion Becomes Code: Reflections from Future Fashion Forum

This image captures more than a moment — it captures a transition.

On May 9–10 in Lviv, the Future Fashion Forum unfolded as a glimpse into what AI can become in fashion: not just a tool, but a co-author of new aesthetics.

As part of the AI Fashion Concept category, finalists’ works were presented not through traditional runways, but through a network of QR codes installed throughout the space — a poetic gesture, turning exhibition into an act of scanning, decoding, discovering.

My project Couture Phantom Code was one of them: a digital couture vision haunted by memory, glitch, and fluid materiality. It flickers between what is preserved and what is still being generated — fashion not as a stable object, but as a ghost of multiple futures.

This week, I had an amazing experience diving into the world of Chibli style thanks to ChatGPT and the growing vibe of X Chiblification. 🌸 What started as a simple exploration of AI fashion creation on Starryai has now transformed into something magical—my fashion design became an entirely new experience in Chibli style! The AI captured the surreal colors, the cinematic feel, and the urban loneliness I’ve always wanted to portray in fashion.

The blend of AI's capabilities with the Chibli aesthetic is truly next-level. Watching how X’s Chiblification has taken over—pushing creative boundaries with every tweak—has been nothing short of mesmerizing. I’m excited to continue experimenting and exploring what more is possible with this fusion of technology, fashion, and animation. 💫

Today, I got the chance to contribute to MoMA's Exquisite Corpse AI game, where each participant adds their own piece to a larger, surreal puzzle. I created cards, each one a fragment of something greater, shaped by AI prompts and a touch of my own imagination.

The experience of working blind, not knowing how my part would fit into the rest, is strangely freeing. It reminds me of the surrealist roots of the game—trusting the process and letting creativity unfold in unexpected ways.

Here's a peek at my cards: one is an abstract blend of shapes and colors, while the other has the eerie face of an astronaut.

What’s interesting is that while these cards exist as separate pieces, they’re part of a larger narrative that I’ll never fully see. It’s a reminder of how we contribute to a bigger picture in life without ever knowing all the pieces. The process itself is the art.

Mariia Gonchar has created AI-generated images based on popular themes such as "Peach Fuzz – Color of 2024," "Year of the Dragon 2024," and "Robot Dogs." These designs are the result of her beta-testing and interaction with developers of AI image generators in late 2023 and early 2024, representing the Ukraine that is keen on innovations.
