Above is a histogram where width of each bar is 1, given height = [2,1,5,6,2,3].

The largest rectangle is shown in the shaded area, which has area = 10 unit.

For example, Given height = [2,1,5,6,2,3], return 10.

From my opinion this is the most creative problem in Leetcode. I only work out a naive O(N^2) solution but after some searching I found a O(n) solution here and here. 

The solution is to create a continuos non-decreasing array using stack. Given the example above, we first push the item 2, and then 1. Since 1 is smaller than 2 we need to pop 2 first. During the pop we calculate the maximum area of 2 can expand (which is 2). So the whole process is like

Push 2

Pop 2 since 1 < 2, get area 2.

Push 5.

Push 6.

Pop 6 since 2 < 6, get area 6.

Pop 5 since 2 < 5, get area 10, the height * the distance from previous one in the stack.

Push 2.

Push 3.

The scan is finished, and we need to pop out all the items in stack. The first is 3, get area 3.

Pop 2, get area 2 * 4 = 8. The distance here is 4 from the previous item stack at position 1 to position 6 (the item after the last one).

Pop 1, the last item, get area 6. Since this is the last item of the stack we cannot get position from the previous stack item. To prevent this situation we need to inject a 0 at the leftmost of the height.
