My Love-Hate relationship
I love love love to program. Since I was young, my mother has unknowingly trained me to look for tiny detailed errors. For my work life, I spent my time comparing documents for small details. I have to remind myself to work slowing because my eye quickly picks up errors. Sometimes my eyes are too quick and I am left with no more work left to scan through.
Now bring that attention to detail to my gaming life...When I code, I do notice the small things that would cause an error to occur (of course after learning what causes an error).
At the moment, where my problem lies is syntax. I have a hard time remembering how to structurally phrase certain lines. This is my frustration and my hate. It, of course, is still part of the learning process, but sometimes I can’t help but to bang my head against the desk in anger. What am I forgetting? All my Ts are crossed and my Is are dotted. So why is this error popping up. Other things I just face palm myself. Come on bruh, why didn’t you notice that before? What were you thinking about? Of course the player is standing there...you accidentally left the code in...smh
I am hoping that by practicing more often. I can overcome this and find a new frustration with coding. It isn’t all that bad though, I enjoy the challenge the coding gives me.
I have said many times that if I worked for a triple A, I might go insane. Many, not all, of those companies reuse the same mechanics, code, and models for each game. There is no challenge and no creativity; just copy and paste. The great thing with indie is that I can always find a new project to challenge me. There will always be a chance to enjoy what i do because indie has much more freedom than Triple A. Indie is about bringing something new to the table that people will pick up. Triple A is about continuing what works for the people and maybe, just maybe, we will give one team a new IP to work on for about six years. Then after the six years we will tease the game for 2 and then dismantle the game and team forever.
