Artists Behind the Story: The Vancalibur Edition!
Hey there! The name’s Vancalibur, but feel free to call me Vanna! Along with my very talented friend Sherb, we make up an art-and-story-telling production duo we call Team Incarnadine! Our first big project is a fantasy adventure webcomic called Of Ash and Stars, where we split basically all the work! Both artists, writers, and roleplayers alike, we are excited to collaborate on this project for your enjoyment!
Okay, so a little bit about my background! I am a 21 y/o Asian-American Scorpio workaholic. (ʘ‿ʘ✿) Drawing and books have always been my escape ever since I was a kid, and became my passions as I grew into my later years. I’ve always been into story roleplay ever since my forum days as a 13 y/o, I’ve dabbled in DnD when I really discovered the local nerd culture, and was even a mod for an art community for a time. So, since forever, fantasy and adventure always had a special place in my heart, inspiring my art and writing. I took my inspirations from media I’ve gravitated to, such as hardcore fantasy genres in games like Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, Aion, and Legend of Zelda, and various animes (there’s too many and I can’t name them all). My implementations of horror or gory genres in my creations have come from my fascination with the natural and medical sciences -- the subject that I’m actually going to school for, surprisingly! Although I am studying in preparation for the medical field, art and literature are no less important to me.
My latest personal project is being the lead artist for the otome game Akash: Path of the Five for the PS4 - of 30 sprites and 70 CGs. I was hired by a very ambitious indie dev team accredited by Sony, called Truant Pixel, for the role. But after Akash, I’ll be leaving Truant Pixel to continue on with Team Incarnadine in making webcomics, and get back to producing my best work! But no matter how much experience I have in the community, industry, and drawing itself, I still have much to learn. Aside from being an opportunity to make some content, by getting into webcomics I hope to tap into a community of artists, writers, and viewers alike, and expand my very limited horizons in the art world itself. There’s plenty of skills to be learned and mastered, even for the most experienced!
Currently, in the making of Song of Ash and Stars, my experience is more in favor of illustrating people of all ages, creatures, and some backgrounds. In the pages, I’ll be responsible for the drawing, while my partner Sherb will be responsible for its colors, and sometimes we’ll work together to fully render illustrations.~
Thanks for reading all the way to the end! We hope our blog has piqued your interest in our work! Follow us, and spread the word! We’re on our way!
